WWE Champions is taking a trip into the retro-futuristic universe of Cowboy Bebop.

Scopely has announced a limited-time crossover between its WWE mobile game and the acclaimed anime property. Titled “Bounty by Moonlight,” the event brings the bounty-hunting world of Cowboy Bebop into WWE Champions from Monday, September 28 through Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The event is built around character-themed gear that transforms selected WWE Superstars into members of the Bebop crew. Trick Williams, Sol Ruca and Bray Wyatt are the featured WWE names receiving the crossover looks, with special entrance and victory animations attached to their respective gear.

WWE Champions is described by Scopely as its number one downloaded WWE mobile game. The new campaign places that game’s lineup of current and legendary WWE talent alongside a property whose setting is rooted in space travel, bounty hunting and Western-inspired storytelling. The crossover takes players to the year 2071, the setting associated with Cowboy Bebop, for a temporary full-game takeover themed around its characters and visual style.

Trick Williams Takes on the Spike Spiegel Role

Trick Williams is at the center of the crossover’s playable character presentation. His exclusive Spike Spiegel gear allows the WWE Superstar to adopt the look of the series’ central bounty hunter.

The announcement specifically highlights a “Trick Shot” on bounties through Williams’ Spike Spiegel gear. It is a natural fit on paper for Williams, whose confidence and charisma have made him one of NXT’s most recognizable personalities. In WWE Champions, however, the focus is on a distinct in-game presentation rather than a change to WWE television continuity.

Williams is also part of the event’s player onboarding offer. New WWE Champions players can enter the promo code “COWBOY” to unlock the two-time NXT Champion as a 5-Star Bronze character. That offer makes Williams a major access point for anyone joining the game during the event window.

The use of Williams in the Spike Spiegel role also gives the collaboration a current WWE presence. While WWE Champions regularly incorporates stars from different eras of company history, the Cowboy Bebop event is leaning into a blend of present-day talent, fan-favorite game content and a well-established anime cast.

Sol Ruca and Bray Wyatt Round Out the Bebop Crew

Sol Ruca receives gear inspired by Faye Valentine, another of Cowboy Bebop’s best-known characters. Her Faye Valentine gear is promoted around the phrase “Sol Snatcher,” matching the game’s wrestling-centered language with the crossover’s bounty-hunter concept.

Ruca’s inclusion gives the event another active WWE name and extends the collaboration beyond one character conversion. Rather than treating Cowboy Bebop as only a cosmetic backdrop, WWE Champions is using specific gear assignments to put multiple members of its roster into recognizable roles from the anime.

Bray Wyatt’s gear is inspired by Jet Black, the Bebop’s captain. The announcement notes that the character will join his crewmates in the ring through Wyatt’s Jet Black gear. Like Williams and Ruca, Wyatt’s crossover gear includes dedicated entrance and victory animations designed to accompany the new appearance.

The choice of Jet Black-inspired gear for Wyatt ensures that the event features a notable name from WWE Champions’ broad historical roster. The game frequently presents athletes and legends from across WWE’s past and present, which makes a multi-character themed event a practical way to merge an outside entertainment franchise with the game’s established format.

All three featured gear sets are framed as ways for WWE Superstars to become members of the Cowboy Bebop cast within the game. The collaboration does not position the anime characters as wrestlers in conventional WWE storylines. Instead, it uses WWE Champions’ collectible and presentation-driven structure to create a themed event in which the characters’ identities, outfits and animations are incorporated into the mobile experience.

“Bounty by Moonlight” Runs for One Week

The Cowboy Bebop takeover is scheduled to run for one week, beginning September 28 and concluding October 4. Its limited-time status means the event is focused on a concentrated promotional period rather than a permanent expansion of WWE Champions.

During that stretch, players will encounter Cowboy Bebop’s visual identity throughout the game, while the specially designed Superstar gear provides the centerpiece of the crossover. The stated concept is to have the show’s bounty hunters collide with WWE Champions’ collection of current and legendary Superstars.

Scopely General Manager of WWE Champions Jerome Collin addressed the partnership in the announcement.

“Bringing larger-than-life icons into the ring is in our DNA, but collaborating with Cowboy Bebop takes that vision to another level,” Collin said. “Its timeless style and legendary cast fit seamlessly into our universe for a truly unforgettable crossover.”

That description reflects the appeal of the pairing. WWE has long relied on outsized personalities, theatrical presentation and instantly identifiable character designs across its various games and licensed products. Cowboy Bebop, meanwhile, is known for its distinctive cast and hybrid approach to science fiction, noir, action and Western influences.

“Bounty by Moonlight” specifically draws attention to that intergalactic Western atmosphere. The promotional framing asks how the gunslinging bounty hunters will fare in the wrestling ring, then answers through the WWE Superstar gear and the themed animations tied to it.

A Crossover Built for WWE Champions’ Format

Mobile-game crossovers often operate differently from television or live-event partnerships. WWE Champions is able to use its roster, gear system and event structure to reinterpret characters without requiring a traditional in-ring match or a storyline explanation on WWE programming.

In this case, the Cowboy Bebop connection is conveyed through visual transformations and gameplay-facing rewards. Williams does not simply appear next to Cowboy Bebop branding; he receives Spike Spiegel gear. Ruca is outfitted with Faye Valentine gear, while Wyatt’s presentation is tied to Jet Black. Those choices give the event an identifiable set of roles and make the collaboration more substantial than a logo placement or menu redesign.

The addition of custom entrances and victory sequences is also significant within the confines of a limited event. Entrances and celebrations are core parts of wrestling presentation, so adapting them for the crossover allows WWE Champions to bring Cowboy Bebop’s aesthetic into moments that players repeatedly see during competition.

The promotion has not announced any broader WWE programming component, physical merchandise collection or live-event tie-in as part of the information released for “Bounty by Moonlight.” The announced collaboration is centered on WWE Champions and its September 28 through October 4 schedule.

For players already active in the game, the event offers a new themed set of looks and animations connected to three WWE names. For prospective players, the Trick Williams promo code provides a direct incentive to begin with a featured character tied to the crossover.
