Natalya’s recent WWE NXT run was not a case of the veteran being sent to the developmental brand to fill a spot. It was something she actively pursued.
Speaking on Busted Open After Dark, Natalya explained that she went directly to WWE NXT head booker Shawn Michaels because she wanted to work with Jaida Parker. Natalya saw a rare intensity in Parker and believed their contrasting styles and personalities could produce something meaningful for both competitors. She later asked to remain in NXT longer so that the program could continue.
The result was a three-match rivalry that gave Parker two victories over one of WWE’s most experienced performers, including a major submission win at NXT Heatwave. For Natalya, the objective was not simply to add another match to her already extensive resume. She wanted to challenge Parker, provoke her, and help unlock a higher level in the young star’s work.
Natalya says the move to NXT was her idea
Main roster talent appearing on NXT has become an increasingly familiar sight, with established WWE names occasionally crossing over to work with newer performers. Those appearances can take many forms, from bolstering a division to setting up a one-off attraction. Natalya made clear that her situation with Parker came from her own desire to be involved.

“I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, not a single soul asked me to come to NXT,” Natalya said on Busted Open After Dark. “It wasn’t like, oh, she’s being asked to go down there because she’s trying to take someone’s spot. I said to Shawn, ‘I want to work with Jaida because I see something in her that is so special.’”
Natalya’s comments underline the purpose behind the feud. Rather than presenting the NXT visit as a veteran simply dropping in for a program, she framed it as an intentional investment in Parker’s potential. The former women’s champion sees a quality in Parker that separates her from the rest of NXT’s women’s roster.
“She’s got this dog in her that I’m like, I gotta test the Nattie character out against her,” Natalya said. “I feel like she’s like the female Jacob Fatu. She’s just got this edge about her that is very, very different from the other girls.”
That comparison speaks to the physicality and aggression Natalya sees in Parker. Jacob Fatu has built his reputation around a volatile, explosive style and a presence that feels difficult to contain. Natalya believes Parker brings a similarly distinct attitude to her performances, one that could be pushed further through a program with an established opponent who knows how to apply pressure in and out of the ring.
‘Soft’ sparked the conflict
The on-screen conflict began on the May 5 edition of NXT. Parker had just suffered a loss to Kali Armstrong and was visibly frustrated backstage when Natalya approached her. The veteran’s assessment was blunt: Natalya called Parker “soft.”
It was a pointed remark, and it immediately gave their rivalry a clear emotional hook. Parker did not accept the criticism quietly. Soon after the confrontation, she invaded The Dungeon 2.0, escalating the dispute and making it clear that Natalya had found a subject Parker took personally.
For Natalya, that was precisely the type of response she hoped to draw out. Throughout her career, she has worked with talent at multiple stages of development, from fellow veterans to wrestlers early in their WWE journeys. Her view is that a productive opponent should help create an environment where a wrestler can deliver a defining performance.
“Every girl that I work with, I want them to go, ‘I got to ride the Nattie Ferrari. I had the performance of my life because I got to work with Nattie,’” Natalya said.
Natalya pointed to her work with other NXT competitors, including Kendal Grey and Thea Hail, while discussing that approach. The message is not subtle: she sees her role as an active one. Experience alone does not make a veteran presence valuable; it must translate into matches, character development, and moments that help the opponent grow.
With Parker, Natalya found a rival who reacted strongly to the verbal jabs. The words “soft,” “comfortable,” and “complacent” became more than standard wrestling insults. They became pressure points in the storyline and helped establish why Parker was determined to prove Natalya wrong.
A three-match series gave Parker two wins
Natalya and Parker faced each other three times during the program. Their first in-ring meeting came on the June 16 edition of NXT, where Natalya earned the victory with her trademark Sharpshooter. The tightly applied submission forced Parker to tap out, giving the veteran an early statement win in the feud.
That result also created a natural path forward. Parker had been beaten in a manner that directly challenged her toughness, the exact trait Natalya had questioned from the start. She needed a response, and the following chapter of the rivalry allowed her to even the score.
When they met again the next month, Thea Hail threw in a white towel, helping Parker secure a victory over Natalya. The finish gave Parker her first win in the series while keeping the issues between the two women unresolved. Natalya had won through a submission, and Parker’s answer came with assistance and controversy around the stoppage, leaving room for a decisive rubber match.
That deciding contest took place at NXT Heatwave, where Parker defeated Natalya once again. The stipulation centered on submissions, making the match an especially fitting conclusion to their story. Parker did not merely survive Natalya’s signature specialty. She turned it back on her opponent, using Natalya’s own submission hold to win.
It was a meaningful way for Parker to close the series. Natalya had initially beaten her with the Sharpshooter and then spent weeks questioning her resilience. At Heatwave, Parker answered by taking the veteran’s signature weapon and using it to secure the victory herself. The finish positioned Parker as someone who had absorbed the lesson, met the challenge, and proven she could defeat Natalya at her own game.
Natalya believes Parker reached a new level
After the Heatwave loss, Natalya revealed that she had requested additional time in NXT because of how highly she views Parker. She believes the feud reached deeper than the usual competitive friction and says the personal remarks connected in a way she did not initially anticipate.
“Again, a little inside, I asked if I could stay a little longer and work with Jaida because I see so much in her,” Natalya said. “I love her, but I also feel like I had a nerve with Jaida. I hit a nerve when I called her soft. I didn’t realize how sensitive she was about that. I had no idea that it really ran deep with her.”
Natalya continued by saying that she also struck a nerve when she called Parker “comfortable” and “complacent.” But from Natalya’s perspective, the uncomfortable nature of those accusations ultimately served a creative and developmental purpose.
“But guess what else I did?” Natalya said. “I have brought out the best work that Jaida Parker has ever done.”
That is a strong endorsement from a performer with Natalya’s level of experience. She has spent years competing against many of WWE’s top women’s wrestlers and has been part of different eras of the company’s women’s division. Her praise of Parker is therefore notable, especially because it comes in the context of a program designed to test the younger wrestler’s emotional intensity as well as her ring work.
The feud also gave Parker tangible results. She finished with a 2-1 advantage over Natalya, and her Heatwave victory was structured as a clear milestone rather than an accidental upset. Parker had to overcome a submission specialist in a submission-based match, then used that specialist’s own hold to do it.
What comes next remains uncertain
It remains unclear whether Natalya and Parker will return to their rivalry in the future. Their series ended with Parker holding the momentum, but the nature of their exchanges leaves open the possibility that they could cross paths again. Natalya’s belief that Parker has more to show, coupled with Parker’s response to the veteran’s criticism, means there is still a personal foundation for another chapter if WWE chooses to revisit it.
For now, however, the program stands as a notable showcase for Parker. NXT regularly relies on rivalries that are designed to prepare emerging talent for bigger opportunities, and Parker’s matches with Natalya gave her the chance to work at length with a veteran who specifically sought out the assignment.
Natalya’s request to stay longer is also a revealing detail. Rather than treating her NXT appearances as a brief detour, she saw enough in Parker to advocate for a more complete story. The three-match series gave the younger wrestler an initial setback, a comeback win, and a decisive triumph. More importantly, it gave Parker an opponent determined to demand something from her.
By Natalya’s own account, the goal was to bring out the best version of Jaida Parker. Parker’s two wins, particularly the submission victory at Heatwave, suggest that the program accomplished exactly what Natalya hoped it would.
