Zaria remains the WWE NXT Women’s North American Champion after overcoming a determined challenge from Thea Hail on Tuesday night’s episode of WWE NXT. Hail entered the match with a clear plan: take away Zaria’s power by attacking her arm, control the bout through submissions, and force the champion into the kind of frantic exchange where one mistake could decide the title.

For much of the contest, that strategy appeared capable of working. Hail repeatedly targeted Zaria’s arm and fingers, trapped the champion in an armbar, and eventually secured the Kimura Lock she had sought from the opening seconds. Yet Zaria’s strength ultimately created the opening she needed. She powered her way upright, escaped a brief roll-up sequence, and put Hail away with a spear followed by an F5.

The result keeps the NXT Women’s North American Championship with Zaria, while Hail’s effort to regain a title she once held ended in disappointment.

Hail Attacks Immediately at the Opening Bell

There was no feeling-out process from Hail. As soon as the bell rang, the challenger rushed Zaria and applied a Kimura Lock. It was an aggressive opening designed to surprise the champion before she could establish her physical advantage.

Zaria responded intelligently rather than attempting to out-wrestle Hail from a compromised position. She backed Hail into the turnbuckle, using the corner to force the break and free herself from the hold. That escape prevented Hail from getting the sudden submission win she appeared to be chasing.

Once free, Zaria quickly imposed herself. Hail was thrown across the ring and then absorbed a series of shoulders in the corner. The champion’s offense emphasized the size and power difference between the two competitors, turning the early submission threat into a stretch where Hail had to withstand heavy contact just to remain in the match.

A big boot gave Hail a needed opening and swung momentum back in her direction. She then attempted a hurricanrana, looking to use speed and movement against the champion’s strength. Zaria blocked the attempt, but Hail did not allow that counter to halt her assault. Instead, she returned to the body part that had been central to her game plan: Zaria’s arm.

The Challenger Focuses on Zaria’s Arm

Hail transitioned into an armbar and continued to press the attack even after Zaria worked free. The champion escaped the hold, but immediately took a knee to the face, giving Hail another opportunity to keep control. From there, Hail stomped on Zaria’s arm and wrenched at her fingers, concentrating her offense on damaging the limb and weakening the champion’s ability to use her power-based attacks.

The methodical work was especially significant because Zaria’s finishing offense depends on her ability to lift and control an opponent. Hail was not simply trying to inflict pain. She was trying to limit the champion’s capacity to execute the moves that had made her such a dangerous titleholder.

Hail maintained her momentum with a dropkick as the match moved toward a commercial break. She appeared ready to increase the pace by diving through the ropes, but Zaria stopped her before she could connect. A right hand caught Hail, and Zaria followed with a discus lariat.

That sequence reminded everyone why Hail’s margin for error was so narrow. She had built an effective attack and had put considerable damage on Zaria’s arm, but one opening allowed the champion to erase the challenger’s momentum with a pair of powerful strikes.

A Kimura Lock Brings Hail Close to the Championship

The closing moments brought Hail back to the submission that had defined the match. She successfully applied the Kimura Lock, putting Zaria in serious danger and creating perhaps the clearest chance Hail had to regain the NXT Women’s North American Championship.

For Hail, the hold represented the culmination of everything she had worked toward. The early ambush, the armbar, the stomps, and the finger manipulation had all been directed toward creating a decisive submission opportunity. Zaria had been forced into the hold after absorbing sustained punishment to the same arm Hail had targeted throughout the bout.

But Zaria was able to rise to her feet with Hail still attached to her. The champion lifted Hail onto her shoulders, using raw power to alter the position and deny the challenger the finish. Hail briefly countered into a roll-up, showing her awareness and urgency in the scramble. Zaria kicked out, however, and Hail was sent into the ropes.

When Hail rebounded, Zaria struck with a spear. The champion then delivered an F5, securing the pinfall and the successful title defense.

It was a finish that underscored the contrast at the center of the match. Hail repeatedly found ways to create technical problems for Zaria and came close to ending the contest by submission. Zaria, meanwhile, survived the challenger’s best efforts and needed only a small window to deliver the decisive power offense.

Hail’s Previous Reign Adds Weight to the Defeat

Hail’s pursuit of the championship carried added meaning because she is a former NXT Women’s North American Champion. Her prior reign lasted 21 days before Izzi Dame defeated her for the title in January 2026. Tuesday’s match gave Hail a chance to return to the position she lost earlier in the year.

That history made the final moments especially difficult for the challenger. Hail was not merely trying to win a championship for the first time; she was attempting to reclaim a title she had already held and prove that she could once again carry it. Her performance showed the urgency of that goal, from the immediate Kimura Lock at the bell to the relentless focus on Zaria’s arm.

Still, a close loss is not the same as a title change. Hail had Zaria in danger, but the champion’s ability to escape the Kimura and capitalize in the ensuing scramble made the difference. The record will show that Zaria retained, even though Hail pushed her to a point where the outcome remained in doubt until the final sequence.

Zaria Keeps the Championship

Zaria’s win was not presented as an easy defense. Hail exposed a potential vulnerability by attacking the arm and came close to forcing a submission. The champion nevertheless showed the resilience to withstand that punishment and the strength to create a finishing sequence when it mattered most.

The spear and F5 delivered a definitive conclusion after an increasingly tense closing stretch. Zaria left the match still holding the NXT Women’s North American Championship, while Hail was left looking up at the lights after falling short in her attempt to reclaim it.

For now, the title remains with Zaria. Hail’s 21-day reign remains part of her history, but her latest opportunity to return to the top of the division ended with Zaria’s hand raised and the championship still in the champion’s possession.
