Steven Borden is back in AEW, and his return immediately raised the stakes for one of the company’s most volatile rivalries.

On the October 21 edition of AEW Dynamite, Borden appeared alongside Darby Allin during a post-match assault by the Don Callis Family. With AEW World Champion Will Ospreay and Adam Copeland being overwhelmed by members of the group, Allin arrived with a bat and introduced Borden to the confrontation. Borden then took a microphone and made his intentions clear: he is back for Blood & Guts.

Borden directly challenged the Don Callis Family to the multi-man match, which is scheduled for the November 4 edition of Dynamite. The challenge places Borden back in the spotlight after his AEW in-ring debut at All Out ended prematurely due to an injury.

Chaos follows Ospreay and Copeland’s loss

The situation developed after Ospreay and Copeland faced Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight in tag-team action. Fletcher and Knight scored the victory, but the finish was heavily influenced by International Champion Kazuchika Okada.

Okada appeared unexpectedly and used his championship to strike Copeland as Copeland crashed into the corner. That interference gave the Don Callis Family’s side a decisive advantage and helped Fletcher and Knight secure the win over Ospreay and Copeland.

The match result was only the beginning of the group’s attack. After the bell, Okada joined Fletcher and Knight along with Mark Davis, Jake Doyle, and Wardlow in targeting the opposing side. The numerical edge quickly became the defining factor as the Don Callis Family continued its assault on the babyfaces.

Ospreay is AEW World Champion, while Copeland remains one of the most decorated and experienced names in professional wrestling. Even with that pedigree on their side, neither man could overcome the sheer number of attackers surrounding them after the match. The Don Callis Family’s willingness to deploy multiple members at once once again made clear that this was not simply a dispute between a handful of rivals. It had become a faction war.

Darby Allin brings out Borden

Allin’s music interrupted the post-match beatdown, bringing a major shift to the scene. He appeared on the stage carrying a bat, a visual that immediately suggested the fight was about to become more violent and more personal.

But Allin was not alone. He handed the bat to Borden as Borden emerged from backstage, marking Borden’s first AEW appearance since the injury suffered during his debut bout. The moment connected Borden’s return directly to Allin, the wrestler with whom he made that debut, while also putting him in the middle of the conflict with the Don Callis Family.

The Young Bucks, AEW World Tag Team Champions, then ran out to provide further help for the babyface side. Their presence helped turn back the Don Callis Family’s advantage and ensured that the confrontation did not remain a one-sided assault.

With the ring and ringside area filled by participants from both sides, Borden took control of the moment on the microphone. His message was concise and emphatic: “I’m back for blood and guts.” He followed that statement by challenging the Don Callis Family to Blood & Guts on November 4.

“I’m back for blood and guts.”

That declaration served as both a comeback announcement and a mission statement. Borden did not return merely to stand beside Allin or to make a brief save. He returned with a specific match in mind, and he is seeking one of AEW’s most dangerous signature stipulations.

Borden’s first AEW match was cut short

The return carries added significance because Borden’s AEW debut did not unfold as planned. At AEW All Out, Borden teamed with Allin against Fletcher and Knight. The bout had to be stopped, and Borden was taken away from ringside on a stretcher.

That injury interrupted what was supposed to be a major early moment for Borden in the promotion. As the son of wrestling legend Sting, Borden entered AEW with an immediate connection to the company’s history with his father, especially through Allin. Sting and Allin built one of AEW’s most enduring partnerships before Sting’s retirement, making Borden’s alliance with Allin a natural continuation of an important relationship.

However, the All Out injury meant that Borden’s first match did not get the chance to reach a normal conclusion. It also left unresolved issues with Fletcher and Knight, both of whom were present during the attack on Ospreay and Copeland. Borden’s return on Dynamite therefore brings him back into direct proximity with the same opponents tied to that halted debut.

The challenge for Blood & Guts presents an opportunity for Borden to resume his AEW story in a far more dramatic setting. The stipulation is built around team warfare, cages, and an environment in which personal grudges can escalate without the usual limits of a standard tag match. For a wrestler coming back after being forced out of action, it is an especially forceful way to announce that he is ready to re-enter the fight.

The Don Callis Family has a deep roster of threats

The Don Callis Family’s attack showcased just how many dangerous pieces the group can bring into a fight. Okada’s role was particularly important, as the International Champion’s title shot against Copeland directly changed the tag match. Fletcher, Knight, Davis, Doyle, and Wardlow then contributed to the post-match numbers game.

Fletcher has been central to the faction’s recent efforts, and his team with Knight delivered a victory over two major AEW names in Ospreay and Copeland. Davis adds further physicality to the group’s lineup, while Wardlow’s presence makes any potential multi-man confrontation even more imposing. With Okada holding the International Championship, the faction also carries championship status into the conflict.

Blood & Guts is designed for precisely this type of rivalry: one side builds its strength through numbers, while the other is forced to find allies capable of meeting the threat. The events on Dynamite identified several likely figures for the babyface side, including Ospreay, Copeland, Allin, Borden, and the Young Bucks. At the same time, the formal team lineups have not been established through Borden’s challenge alone.

That uncertainty is part of what makes the next two weeks important. The Don Callis Family has shown it can field a large group of attackers, but Borden’s return and the arrival of the Young Bucks gave the opposition a meaningful response. Any additional alliances, changes in team composition, or confrontations before November 4 could shape the eventual Blood & Guts battlefield.

A major test awaits on November 4

For Ospreay, the issue is not only the loss on Dynamite, but the continued targeting of the AEW World Champion by a powerful faction. For Copeland, Okada’s title-assisted attack added another layer to an already heated confrontation. For Allin, the angle brings him back alongside Borden after their difficult experience at All Out.

For Borden, however, November 4 could represent the most important moment of his young AEW career. His debut was interrupted by injury, and his return has now been framed around a match renowned for its brutality and scale. The challenge indicates that Borden is not looking for a cautious reintroduction to competition. He is stepping back into AEW in the middle of a faction conflict involving champions, established stars, and the group connected to his first match being stopped.

The Don Callis Family has not been short on confidence or manpower, and Wednesday’s attack demonstrated why its opponents will need to be organized heading into Blood & Guts. Still, the group’s attempt to overwhelm Ospreay and Copeland ended with a dramatic answer from Allin, Borden, and the Young Bucks.

With Borden now back and the challenge issued, AEW has a clear destination: Blood & Guts on the November 4 episode of Dynamite. The battle lines are beginning to form, and the Don Callis Family will have to decide how it intends to answer a returning Borden who has already made clear what kind of fight he wants.
