Jon Moxley will put the AEW Continental Championship on the line against Mark Davis at AEW WrestleDream on October 17 in Orlando, Florida.
The title match was made official during AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam Paris, adding another championship bout to a WrestleDream card that is continuing to take shape. Davis enters the contest with momentum after teaming with fellow Don Callis Family member Jake Doyle to defeat Moxley and Gabe Kidd.
For Moxley, the defense comes shortly after he unsuccessfully challenged Will Ospreay for the AEW World Championship at All Out. While Moxley did not leave that event with the company’s top prize, he remains the Continental Champion and will now be tasked with protecting the title against a challenger who has already been part of a winning effort over him in recent competition.
Moxley’s Continental Championship Reign Heads To WrestleDream
Moxley has held the AEW Continental Championship for 284 days as of Tuesday, giving the WrestleDream match considerable importance for both champion and challenger. The belt has remained in Moxley’s possession through several notable defenses, including a recent victory over Orange Cassidy on Dynamite: A Tribute to Pac.

That Orange Cassidy match was Moxley’s most recent Continental title defense prior to the WrestleDream announcement. It followed another successful defense against Nigel McGuinness in the final of the AEW Continental Challenge at All In London at the end of August.
Those results establish the demanding pace Moxley has maintained during his run as champion. His schedule has included a major World Championship challenge at All Out while the Continental Championship has continued to require his attention. The upcoming meeting with Davis ensures that the Continental title remains central to Moxley’s AEW calendar even after the World Championship opportunity has passed.
At WrestleDream, Moxley will be defending against an opponent whose path to the match was not simply announced in isolation. Davis and Doyle’s victory over Moxley and Kidd provided an immediate competitive backdrop to the title challenge. Davis now has the chance to convert that tag team result into the biggest singles championship win of his AEW run.
Mark Davis Brings Don Callis Family Presence To The Title Picture
Davis represents the Don Callis Family in the Continental Championship match, while Moxley heads into the bout with fellow Death Rider Gabe Kidd recently at his side. The Grand Slam Paris tag match placed members of those respective groups across the ring from one another, and the result pushed Davis into a championship position.
Jake Doyle’s role in the tag team victory is also part of the context entering WrestleDream. Although Doyle is not the announced challenger, he and Davis were the team that defeated Moxley and Kidd. That result gives Davis a foundation for his claim that he can beat the reigning Continental Champion, even though a singles title match presents an entirely different challenge.
Moxley’s position is equally clear. The champion has already shown that he can navigate title defenses against very different opponents. Orange Cassidy and Nigel McGuinness each brought their own approaches to a championship match, and Moxley emerged with the title in both instances. Davis will now attempt to become the opponent who ends a reign that has extended beyond nine months.
The match also gives WrestleDream a direct confrontation between a reigning AEW champion and a prominent member of the Don Callis Family. Davis will not need to wait for another qualifying win or tournament scenario. The Grand Slam Paris development has moved him straight into one of the event’s announced title matches.
A Significant Moment After All Out
Moxley’s All Out challenge of Will Ospreay created a high-profile moment in his year, but the Continental Championship remains the gold he carries into WrestleDream. The title defense against Davis will offer Moxley an immediate opportunity to reaffirm his standing after failing to capture the AEW World Championship.
Conversely, Davis has an opportunity to make a major statement at Moxley’s expense. Defeating a champion in tag team action can create momentum, but winning the Continental Championship would be a far more consequential accomplishment. It would end Moxley’s 284-day reign, as measured on Tuesday, and place the championship with a member of the Don Callis Family.
The announcement also underscores how quickly the direction of a title scene can change on Dynamite. Moxley had just defended against Cassidy on the Tribute to Pac edition of the program, only for the Grand Slam Paris card to produce a new challenger through the tag team match involving Davis, Doyle and Kidd.
With the match scheduled for October 17, the remaining time before WrestleDream will determine how the rivalry develops. At present, the essential competitive facts are straightforward: Moxley is the reigning Continental Champion, Davis is the challenger, and Davis’ team owns a recent victory over Moxley’s team. That is enough to give the championship match a clear edge heading into Orlando.
WrestleDream Card Continues To Expand
The Continental Championship contest joins an increasingly substantial WrestleDream lineup. AEW’s World Championship will also be defended at the event in a newly introduced stipulation match called Clockwork Carnage. Samoa Joe has already qualified for that championship match.
Elsewhere on the announced card, The Young Bucks will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Kevin Knight and Kyle Fletcher. The addition of Moxley versus Davis means WrestleDream will feature at least two championship defenses with the Continental and World Tag Team titles, alongside the World Championship match under its new stipulation.
For Moxley, WrestleDream represents another required stop in a title reign built around successful defenses and an unrelenting championship workload. His win over Cassidy and his Continental Challenge final victory over McGuinness remain important markers in the reign, but neither changes the immediate threat posed by Davis.
For Davis, the match is a chance to build on the Grand Slam Paris result and pursue championship gold against one of AEW’s most established titleholders. His victory alongside Doyle over Moxley and Kidd did not change the Continental Championship, but it did create the opening that led directly to this singles showdown.
AEW WrestleDream takes place in Orlando, Florida on October 17. When Moxley and Davis meet, Moxley will be looking to extend a Continental Championship reign that has already reached 284 days, while Davis will seek to turn the Don Callis Family’s recent momentum into a title-changing result.
