Dominik Mysterio is not letting Rey Mysterio rewrite the family record — not even when it comes to a decade-old WWE video game promotion.
During a recent appearance on Ring Rust Radio, Dominik addressed an infamous old social-media message in which Rey said he could not wait to “beat his kids” while promoting WWE ’13. Rey’s wording naturally took on a different tone years later, after the real-life father-and-son relationship became one of WWE’s most personal and bitter rivalries.
For Dominik, however, the gaming claim itself was easy to dispute. The reigning WWE star said Rey was simply not capable of backing up that boast with a controller in his hands.
“That was a lie. He’s never beaten me in a video game. Yeah, he’s a liar. A compulsive liar.”

A Small Claim With A Big Mysterio History Behind It
In another family, an argument over old video game results might amount to harmless trash talk. In the Mysterio family, it fits into a much larger WWE story that has unfolded in front of audiences for years.
Rey and Dominik’s on-screen relationship was once defined by pride, mentorship and a historic shared accomplishment. Dominik entered WWE under the shadow of one of the most celebrated luchadors in company history, with Rey openly supporting his son’s path into the ring. That dynamic did not last. Dominik’s turn against his father several years ago changed the direction of both men’s careers and became the foundation for one of WWE’s most recognizable family feuds.
Dominik aligned himself with The Judgment Day and adopted a markedly different attitude from the eager young competitor who initially sought his father’s approval. The split gave Dominik the chance to establish a persona separate from Rey’s legacy, but it also put him at odds with the man who had helped introduce him to WWE audiences.
The tension eventually reached WrestleMania 39, where Rey finally responded physically to his son’s repeated provocations. After spending a lengthy period trying to avoid fighting Dominik, Rey faced him on WWE’s biggest stage and, as the rivalry had been framed, put belt to ass on his son. The bout served as a decisive chapter in the conflict, even if it did not bring a permanent end to their animosity.
That history makes Dominik’s latest jab at Rey more than a random comment about an old wrestling game. It continues a familiar pattern: whenever the two have a chance to question each other’s credibility, competitive standing or accomplishments, neither seems willing to give the other any ground.
Rey’s Old WWE ’13 Message Returns To The Conversation
The original remark came during the promotional cycle for WWE ’13, when Rey wrote that he could not wait to beat his kids. At the time, it read as a playful family-oriented promotion for a WWE title built around allowing fans to take control of their favorite Superstars and settle fantasy matchups.
Years later, the line has become a memorable piece of Mysterio family trivia because of the father-and-son war that followed. Rey’s old words now have an accidental edge, especially given how intensely Dominik has embraced conflict with his father on WWE programming.
Dominik’s response reframes the message as an exaggeration at best. His insistence that Rey has “never” beaten him in a video game is a straightforward competitive claim, but calling his father a “compulsive liar” ensures it lands as another personal shot in the ongoing Mysterio dispute.
There is no indication that the comment signals an immediate new match between the two. Rather, it reflects how naturally the pair’s rivalry can resurface in almost any setting. A question about a video game advertisement from more than a decade ago quickly became another occasion for Dominik to challenge Rey’s version of events.
Dominik Continues To Define Himself Beyond Rey’s Legacy
The competitive edge in Dominik’s answer is consistent with the identity he has developed since leaving Rey’s side. He has spent years portraying himself as someone who does not want his successes dismissed as the result of his father’s name, even as the Mysterio connection remains impossible to separate from his WWE story.
That conflict has helped make Dominik’s character work. He has not ignored his family history; he has weaponized it. By publicly rejecting Rey’s influence and questioning his father’s claims at every opportunity, Dominik has turned the relationship into a source of heat rather than a source of sentimentality.
His latest comments also arrive while he remains focused on championship ambitions in WWE. In another recent interview, Dominik discussed the titles he is considering pursuing. That objective is significant because title success offers the clearest way for him to build a résumé that stands on its own, regardless of how frequently his name is tied to Rey’s achievements.
For Dominik, championships are not merely prizes. They are evidence. Every title pursuit gives him another opportunity to argue that he belongs in WWE because of his own ability, personality and willingness to seize an opening — not solely because he is Rey Mysterio’s son.
Family Rivalries Have Long Been Central To WWE
WWE has regularly used family relationships to create stories with a built-in emotional foundation, but the Mysterio rivalry has had a distinctive advantage: fans watched the relationship develop over time. Rey’s support of Dominik was a major part of the latter’s early WWE presence. When Dominik rejected that support, audiences had years of context behind the betrayal.
As a result, even a brief media comment can carry echoes of the larger feud. Dominik accusing Rey of lying about gaming results is funny on the surface, but it also plays into the central question that has driven much of their conflict: whether Rey understands Dominik at all, and whether Dominik is willing to acknowledge anything positive about his father.
At this stage, the answer from Dominik appears clear. He is not inclined to grant Rey credit in the ring, in the family dynamic or on a console. His response to the old WWE ’13 post leaves no ambiguity about who he believes held the upper hand whenever the two played.
Rey, meanwhile, has a long-established reputation as one of WWE’s most enduring and influential performers. That reputation has never stopped Dominik from attacking him verbally, and it is unlikely to do so now. The old post may have been lighthearted when it was first shared, but Dominik has transformed it into another talking point in the Mysterios’ long-running battle for bragging rights.
No Sign Of Peace In The Mysterio Family
Dominik’s statement does not reveal a fresh in-ring confrontation or a specific next step in the family feud. It does, however, demonstrate that the tension remains useful to both the character and the wider WWE conversation around the Mysterios.
The father-and-son rivalry has been fueled by major confrontations, harsh verbal exchanges and deeply personal insults. Now it can apparently be fueled by an old promotional post about WWE ’13 as well. Dominik’s position is that Rey’s boast was fiction, plain and simple.
Whether Rey chooses to answer the accusation is another matter. But Dominik has made his stance clear: when it comes to video games, he says his father never got the win he claimed to be looking for. In a family rivalry where neither man seems eager to concede anything, that may be all the invitation Rey needs to dispute the record one more time.
