Cody Rhodes has made it clear that any speculation about lingering tension between himself and Travis Scott is misplaced. More than a year after Scott was involved in the memorable and brutal closing angle at WWE Elimination Chamber 2025, Rhodes says there was “never any heat” between them and that he would like to see the rapper return for another WWE project.
The comments offer a fuller look at an angle that generated enormous attention heading into WrestleMania season. Scott stood alongside The Rock and a newly villainous John Cena after Rhodes rejected The Rock’s demand for his “soul.” The confrontation escalated into a three-on-one assault on Rhodes, who was WWE Champion at the time. During the beatdown, Scott slapped Rhodes while he was down, with the moment leaving Rhodes with a highly visible black eye as WWE headed toward WrestleMania.
Because of the physical nature of that scene, and because Scott had not immediately become a regular WWE fixture after it, questions persisted over whether there had been an issue between the two. Rhodes has now directly rejected that idea, describing Scott warmly while acknowledging that the rapper’s involvement was seemingly paused after the angle.
Rhodes welcomes a future Travis Scott WWE appearance
During a sneaker-focused interview, Rhodes was asked whether Travis Scott footwear had been banned from his household. The question referenced the Elimination Chamber incident as well as a pair of Scott sneakers worn by Rhodes’ wife, Brandi Rhodes.

“Well, the Travis Scott of it all, the pair that Brandi did wear those, and I don’t think she gave a damn that he put the big old—I don’t even know what we’d call his hand. It was like a frying pan. He’s got a big hand. And no, there was never any heat. We love Travis Scott. I’d like to see Travis Scott back doing something with WWE. He’s wonderful, but they were—they were, I think, shunned a little bit. Yeah, put them on ice for a little bit. But they’re great.”
Rhodes’ remarks distinguish between the on-screen violence and any personal relationship behind the scenes. The slap was an attention-grabbing part of a storyline built around Rhodes’ refusal to align with The Rock, Cena’s turn against Rhodes, and the company’s push to make the WrestleMania build feel unpredictable. But Rhodes framed the aftermath in a far different light, making it clear that he did not view Scott as someone with whom he had a real-life issue.
His wording also leaves open an interesting question about Scott’s WWE future. Rhodes said he believed Scott had been “put … on ice for a little bit,” but did not offer a specific reason or confirm any planned return. What he did make clear is that he personally would be receptive to seeing Scott involved with WWE again.
Celebrity involvement has long been a major component of WWE’s biggest events, particularly around WrestleMania. The Rock’s presence in the Rhodes storyline gave the Elimination Chamber segment an added blockbuster dimension, while Cena’s betrayal drastically changed the direction of his relationship with Rhodes. Scott’s role made the scene even more mainstream, especially given the immediate reaction to the slap and the image of Rhodes wearing the effects of the attack in subsequent appearances.
A watch, a locker room gesture, and mutual respect
Rhodes also shared a previously untold detail that he believes showed Scott understood an important aspect of pro wrestling etiquette. In addition to leaving Rhodes a pair of sneakers after the segment, Scott retrieved and returned a watch that had come off during the physical angle.
Rhodes recalled that the watch became part of the chaos as he was being attacked in Toronto. He said John Cena put the watch on his hand and punched him with it during the segment. Rhodes then went to the training room for medical attention, where he was being stitched up. Scott, Rhodes explained, had made sure the watch was recovered and returned to him backstage.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever said this. He left a pair for me, and then where I knew not only I felt like we were maybe cool, but also I felt like maybe we bonded as a wrestler. The wrestler bond was when I’m getting beat up in Toronto and I’m bleeding like a stuck pig and then Drake’s sitting in the front row watching. I never got to say hi to Drake, so hi to Drake, because that was a bummer. So I was laying there getting my ass kicked, but my watch came off. I think John put it on his hand and he punched me with it and that was the whole thing. I then went to the training room. They’re stitching me up and they’re doing all this stuff. He is the one who got the watch. Travis is the one who got the watch, put it in his pocket, and made sure it got back to me. That’s man stuff. That’s pro. So I always appreciated that greatly.”
For Rhodes, that was the moment that made the interaction feel like more than a celebrity cameo. The returned watch was a small gesture, but it carried substantial meaning in an environment where trust, awareness, and looking after one another matter even in the middle of a heated televised angle.
Rhodes has consistently spoken about wrestling as a collaborative performance in which participants have to protect each other while making the conflict look as convincing as possible. His description of Scott’s actions suggests the rapper earned respect by handling himself responsibly after the segment, despite not being a full-time wrestler. Rhodes called it a “wrestler bond,” emphasizing that Scott took care of something personal during a hectic post-match-style situation.
The Elimination Chamber angle remains a major Rhodes moment
Elimination Chamber 2025 was a pivotal night in the larger Rhodes saga. The Rock wanted Rhodes to accept an arrangement that would have placed him under The Rock’s influence, an idea encapsulated by the request for Rhodes’ “soul.” Rhodes refused. The rejection set off the attack from The Rock, Cena, and Scott, transforming the closing stretch of the event into one of the defining angles on the road to WrestleMania.
Scott’s slap became a central talking point because it looked especially forceful and because Rhodes appeared with a noticeable shiner afterward. The visual reinforced the story that Rhodes had been overwhelmed by a group determined to break him down. It also showed how celebrity participation can amplify WWE storytelling when it is woven directly into the company’s top narrative rather than presented as a separate attraction.
At the same time, Rhodes’ latest comments add necessary context to the moment. There was a dramatic television assault, real physicality, and a visible injury effect that fueled conversation. Yet Rhodes says the people involved were on good terms, and Scott followed the segment with gestures that Rhodes remembered long after the show ended.
The mention of Drake, who Rhodes said was seated at ringside in Toronto, adds another notable detail to the atmosphere around the segment. Rhodes jokingly noted that he never had the opportunity to greet Drake because he was occupied with taking the beating and later receiving treatment. Still, the key takeaway from Rhodes’ recollection was Scott’s professionalism amid a chaotic, high-profile scene.
What a return could mean
There is no confirmation that Travis Scott is scheduled for another WWE appearance, nor did Rhodes identify a particular event, storyline, or opponent for him. His comments should therefore be viewed as a personal endorsement rather than an announcement. However, the endorsement is significant because it comes from the wrestler who took the most memorable physical shot during Scott’s prior WWE involvement.
If Scott does return, WWE would have several ways to use him: another storyline cameo, a live-event appearance connected to one of the company’s tentpole shows, or a role alongside established WWE personalities. Rhodes did not lobby for any specific format. He simply said he would like to see Scott “back doing something with WWE,” an indication that the door is open from his perspective.
For now, Rhodes has put the question of alleged heat to rest. The Elimination Chamber angle may have looked harsh, and the black eye ensured that it remained a visual talking point for weeks. But Rhodes’ account paints a picture of a collaborative celebrity appearance, one capped by Scott returning a valuable personal item and leaving behind a gesture of goodwill. In Rhodes’ view, that was not just considerate—it was professional.
