Trick Williams is once again WWE United States Champion. Williams defeated Baron Corbin at WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event after a wild sequence involving rapper Lil Yachty created an immediate championship opportunity and added another layer of chaos to an already heated situation.
The decisive moment came when Williams escaped Corbin’s End of Days and answered with the Trick Shot, putting the champion down for the three-count. It was the culmination of a match in which Corbin controlled long stretches, used the environment around ringside to punish his challenger, and even attempted to use the title belt while the official was occupied. In the end, however, Williams found the opening he needed and converted it into another reign with the United States Championship.
Yachty’s role was central from the beginning. Before Williams challenged Corbin, the rapper had to last five minutes in the ring with the reigning champion in order to earn Williams a shot at the gold. Corbin appeared to view Yachty as an easy target rather than a serious obstacle, and that confidence nearly cost him before the championship match had even been announced.
Corbin had Yachty in position to be driven through a table, but the five-minute clock expired before he could complete the attack. That result secured the title match for Williams. Corbin continued to target Williams physically, driving him shoulder-first into the ring post. The impact gave Corbin an apparent path to retain the championship, and he rolled outside to retrieve the United States Title belt. At that point, he was confronted by Yachty.
The interaction at ringside led to more confusion. With the referee distracted by the downed Yachty, Corbin used the title belt to strike Williams. It was a clear attempt to steal the victory while the official’s attention was elsewhere, and it nearly worked. Williams, however, kicked out after the belt shot, denying Corbin the opportunistic finish.
That kickout proved pivotal. Corbin had survived Williams’ early attack, controlled him through a lengthy portion of the contest, landed major offense, and then tried to use the title as a weapon. None of it was enough to put away the challenger. By the closing stretch, the champion’s frustration and urgency had become just as important as his power.

Corbin’s final attempt came with End of Days. It was the move that could have ended Williams’ challenge and preserved Corbin’s reign after an eventful defense. Williams avoided it, though, and rapidly turned the opening into the Trick Shot.
That counter decided the championship match. Williams covered Corbin and secured the victory, ending Corbin’s reign and regaining the United States Title. The finish rewarded Williams for surviving Corbin’s heavy offense and for remaining composed after the champion’s belt shot had failed to produce a three-count.
The result also gives Williams another defining United States Championship moment. He entered Sunday Night’s Main Event with a chance that was only made possible because Yachty lasted five minutes against Corbin. Once the bell rang for the title bout, Williams had to endure a champion willing to use every advantage available, including a distraction at ringside and the belt itself.
Williams ultimately overcame all of it. He absorbed the chokeslam, escaped the threat of Deep Six, survived being sent into the ring post, and kicked out after Corbin struck him with the championship. When End of Days did not connect, Williams made Corbin pay with the Trick Shot and left with the United States Title.
What the Win Means for Williams and Corbin
For Williams, the victory restores him to the United States Championship picture at the highest possible level: as champion. The “Whoop That Trick” chants during the match underscored the support behind him as he fought from underneath against Corbin’s punishing style. His ability to rally late and deliver the Trick Shot in the decisive moment made the win especially emphatic.
For Corbin, the loss is likely to be difficult to accept. He had multiple chances to end the match and appeared to have tilted circumstances in his favor after Williams’ concern for Yachty opened the door to a sustained attack. Even his unapproved belt shot, delivered while the referee was distracted, failed to keep Williams down.
Corbin’s initial decision to treat Yachty’s five-minute challenge as an opportunity for punishment rather than simply a task to complete set the night’s larger chain of events in motion. Had he finished the table attack before the clock expired, Williams would not have received the immediate title shot. Instead, Yachty lasted the required time, Williams arrived ready to fight, and Corbin’s championship slipped away.
