Sami Zayn’s return to the top of WWE has brought a different kind of satisfaction than his first run with the championship. For Zayn, the first victory was a landmark achievement that carried the shock and joy of finally reaching a level few performers in wrestling history have attained. But because that reign ended quickly, he acknowledged there was a lingering question, both from outside observers and potentially within himself: was that first title win a singular, unlikely moment?
His second win over Punk changed that feeling. Speaking about the contrast between the two championship victories, Zayn said the first and second triumphs were close together on the calendar but emotionally very different experiences.
“The first one and the second one, even though they were so close together, felt really different,” Zayn said. “Because the first one’s like, ‘Wow, I can’t believe I did it.’”

“It kind of washes away that little part of like, well, I just got lucky, because maybe that is in the back of your head,” Zayn said.

Reports have indicated that the decision to put the championship back on Zayn may have been influenced by plans for the upcoming premium live event, where WWE is expected to hold a champion-versus-champion match.
Those same reports have suggested WWE did not want to revisit a CM Punk versus Roman Reigns match in that particular champion-versus-champion setting. With Zayn now holding the Undisputed WWE Championship, the potential makeup of Crown Jewel has changed, while Punk’s immediate direction following the loss remains a major question.
It is important, however, that the reported Crown Jewel rationale does not diminish what Zayn’s victory means inside the ring or in the broader narrative around his career. WWE title changes can serve several objectives at once: advancing a rivalry, setting up a premium live event, creating fresh match possibilities, and rewarding a performer with a career-defining moment. In Zayn’s case, the outcome has accomplished all of those things while also providing a powerful continuation of his individual story.
