Indi Hartwell’s recent return to WWE NXT was more than a one-night appearance before a major TNA Wrestling championship opportunity. For the current TNA Knockouts World Champion, stepping back into the NXT environment provided reassurance, reunions, momentum and, in her own words, a valuable sense of closure.

Hartwell competed in the NXT Women’s Championship No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal only days before Bound for Glory, where she defeated Xia Brookside to win the Knockouts title. The NXT appearance put Hartwell back in a familiar setting, but it also came after enough time away that she entered the night wondering what kind of reaction awaited her.

Speaking on Unseen with Joey Karni, Hartwell explained that her visible excitement during the return was tied to a genuine concern over how the NXT audience would receive her. NXT had changed considerably since her departure, and Hartwell recognized how quickly wrestling audiences and rosters move forward.

“Yeah, I think I was so happy and smiley because I was kind of worried that the audience wouldn’t remember me or, not that they wouldn’t remember me, but that they wouldn’t care anymore because the business moves fast and a lot has happened in NXT since I was there,” Hartwell said.

That uncertainty makes the response especially meaningful in the context of Hartwell’s history with the brand. NXT was a major part of her development and rise within WWE. Returning to compete in front of that audience allowed her to revisit a key chapter of her career while also presenting herself as a performer entering the ring with a new perspective and a different destination ahead of her in TNA.

Hartwell said the night ultimately delivered an emotional benefit beyond the match itself.

“So, that’s why I was so happy, and yeah, I guess it did give me a sense of closure,” she said.

A Return That Offered More Than a Match

For wrestlers who leave a promotion, the exit does not always include a final round of conversations with the people who shaped their day-to-day professional lives. Hartwell specifically noted that being released can mean losing the chance to say goodbye to coaches, producers and colleagues in person. Her NXT return gave her an opportunity to address some of that unfinished personal business.

“I was able to, you know, talk with old coaches, producers, and people that I worked with there because when you get released, you don’t get to say bye to some people,” Hartwell said.

That aspect of the appearance helps explain why Hartwell viewed it as closure rather than simply a guest spot. The wrestling business is built around movement: talent changes promotions, brands evolve, and the people involved in a performer’s early progression can be scattered across different shows and companies. A chance to return to a former workplace can therefore hold significance that cannot be measured by match time alone.

Hartwell had a practical reason to welcome the opportunity as well. Bound for Glory was approaching, and her match against Xia Brookside carried the stakes of the Knockouts division’s top prize. Appearing in the NXT Battle Royal placed Hartwell on a prominent televised stage immediately before that championship match, creating momentum at a crucial point in her TNA run.

The timing proved favorable. Hartwell followed the NXT appearance by defeating Brookside at Bound for Glory and becoming TNA Knockouts World Champion. In hindsight, the WWE appearance became part of a busy, important stretch in which Hartwell returned to a defining setting from her past and then captured one of the most prestigious women’s championships in TNA.

Momentum Heading Into Bound for Glory

Hartwell directly connected the NXT experience to the momentum she carried into Bound for Glory. While the appearances occurred in different promotions, the sequence gave her a rare chance to be involved in notable women’s wrestling matches on major stages in quick succession.

“So, yeah, I feel like it was a bit of closure, also a lot of momentum going into Bound for Glory,” Hartwell said.

Momentum is often an intangible term in wrestling, but Hartwell’s situation offers a clear example of how it can be built. A well-received return can reinforce a wrestler’s confidence. Competing on television in a familiar but changed environment can remind audiences of past accomplishments while introducing a current version of the performer. Then, when that wrestler enters a title match days later, the attention from the earlier appearance can add to the feeling that their career is moving in a positive direction.

For Hartwell, the Bound for Glory result made that period even more consequential. Winning the Knockouts World Championship placed her at the center of TNA’s women’s division. The title win also ensured that her NXT appearance would not stand as a nostalgic detour; instead, it became a meaningful part of the road immediately preceding a major championship achievement.

Hartwell’s comments also underline the value of appearances that allow wrestlers to acknowledge their past without being defined entirely by it. Her connection to NXT remains important, but she entered Bound for Glory focused on her current opportunity in TNA. The return gave her a moment to reconnect with the WWE chapter of her career, while the title victory established the scale of the chapter now unfolding for her.

Indi Hartwell and Zaria Share a First-Time Moment

One of the personal highlights of the Battle Royal came through Hartwell’s interaction with Zaria. Despite both women being Australian, Hartwell said they had never previously crossed paths in the ring. Their meeting on NXT television gave the bout a distinct moment beyond the broader No. 1 contender stakes.

“I got to have a moment with Zaria in the ring, which was cool. Her and I have never ever crossed paths before,” Hartwell said. “So, yeah, two Aussies facing off in the NXT ring on TV. I think it’s pretty special.”

That exchange mattered because shared nationality does not automatically mean two wrestlers have worked together before. Wrestling careers can develop in separate regions, on different timelines and under different promotions. Hartwell and Zaria meeting under the NXT lights represented a first for both performers, while also giving Australian fans a notable visual within a high-profile WWE women’s match.

The moment reflects the increasingly international nature of modern wrestling rosters. Athletes can come from the same country yet not encounter one another until years later, once their respective paths reach a major televised platform. Hartwell’s appreciation for that encounter showed that, even amid the larger personal emotions of returning to NXT, she was also able to recognize the specific significance of sharing the ring with a fellow Australian for the first time.

Battle royals are structured around shifting interactions and brief confrontations, but those moments can still carry substantial importance when the right people meet. For Hartwell, facing Zaria was one of those details that made the match memorable beyond its official outcome.

Wren Sinclair Earns the Championship Opportunity

The No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal did not end with Hartwell earning the next NXT Women’s Championship match. Wren Sinclair won the contest and moved on to challenge NXT Women’s Champion Kelani Jordan at NXT Halloween Havoc.

Sinclair was unsuccessful in that title challenge, with Jordan retaining the NXT Women’s Championship. Still, the Battle Royal accomplished several things at once: it determined a challenger for the champion, created a platform for Hartwell’s WWE return, and allowed Hartwell and Zaria to share their first in-ring encounter.

For Hartwell, the result did not diminish what the appearance meant. She left the experience with the crowd response she had hoped for, time with former coaches, producers and coworkers, and a sense that she had been able to properly revisit a place that played a significant role in her career.

She then took that energy into Bound for Glory, where her win over Brookside changed the direction of her TNA tenure. As Knockouts World Champion, Hartwell now carries the responsibility of leading a division while continuing a career that has already included major moments across different stages.

Her reflection on the NXT return is a reminder that wrestling’s most meaningful moments are not always limited to wins and losses. The Battle Royal had an official winner, and the championship landscape moved forward afterward. But for Hartwell, the night was also about being welcomed back, reconnecting with people she had not been able to properly farewell, sharing a unique moment with Zaria, and entering the next major match of her career with renewed confidence.

In the space of just a few days, Hartwell was able to revisit her past and secure a major piece of her present. That combination gave her WWE NXT return a significance that extended well beyond the Battle Royal itself.
