Queen Aminata is the new AEW TBS Champion after defeating Persephone in the main event of AEW Dynamite: Fright Night.
The championship match brought a major title reign to an end and gave Aminata a defining singles victory on one of AEW’s biggest weekly stages. Persephone entered the bout for her fifth defense since taking the TBS Championship from Maya World at All In in August, carrying the confidence of a champion who had already turned away several challengers. Aminata, however, withstood both the champion’s punishing approach and interference from Britt Baker at ringside before landing Off With Her Head to secure the three-count.
The result completes a significant turnaround from WrestleDream, where Aminata had been unable to take the title in a four-way match also featuring Persephone, Hyan, and Dani Luna. In that setting, Persephone escaped with the championship against three opponents. At Fright Night, Aminata had a direct opportunity, and she made it count.
Persephone Takes Control Early
Persephone began the match like a champion determined to keep the challenger from building any momentum. Rather than allowing Aminata to establish a fast, physical rhythm, she took the contest to the mat and worked to keep her grounded in the center of the ring.

Aminata showed flashes of resistance during the opening stages, but Persephone remained the more aggressive competitor. The TBS Champion repeatedly cut off those attempted rallies and added a cruel edge to her offense, taking Aminata into the corner and biting at her head. It was a clear message that Persephone was prepared to use every available opening to retain her title.
That control extended outside the ring. Persephone knocked Aminata to the floor with a dropkick, then called for Baker, who was stationed at ringside, to bring a chair into play. Persephone seated Aminata in the chair and looked to follow up with a dropkick, aiming to drive the challenger into the ringside furniture.
Aminata avoided the attack, preventing what could have been a decisive moment in the match. The action returned to the ring, but the escape did not immediately reverse the contest. Persephone still had the advantage and continued to dictate the pace, ensuring Aminata had to fight from underneath in her pursuit of the championship.
Aminata Finds Her Opening
The challenger eventually created the breathing room she needed. Aminata connected with a headbutt that changed the tone of the match, then followed it with a series of lariats. After spending much of the bout absorbing Persephone’s pressure, Aminata was finally able to put the champion on the defensive.
A roll-up produced a two-count, showing how close Aminata was to turning a rally into a title change. She then planted Persephone with a neckbreaker, continuing the strongest sustained stretch of offense she had managed all match. For the first time, the defending champion appeared vulnerable.
Persephone responded before Aminata could fully seize control. The champion cut off the comeback with a spear, wiping out her challenger and returning the bout to the hard-hitting, punishing style that had served her well during the reign. From there, Persephone focused further on Aminata’s neck, looking to wear down the challenger and leave her unable to deliver the offense that had brought her back into contention.
The sequence illustrated why Persephone had made it through four previous TBS Championship defenses. Whenever Aminata looked ready to gain a foothold, Persephone found a way to halt her. The champion was not simply protecting a lead; she was repeatedly forcing Aminata to overcome another setback.
Britt Baker’s Interference Is Not Enough
The chair that had been introduced earlier in the match returned to the story late in the contest. Aminata managed to get Persephone seated on it, then delivered a dropkick from the apron that sent the champion crashing off the chair. It was an inventive and forceful response after Persephone had initially intended to use the chair against her.
Even then, Aminata still had to contend with Baker. While the referee checked on Persephone, Baker struck Aminata with the TBS Championship belt. The interference gave Persephone an enormous opening. Baker threw Aminata back into the ring, leaving the challenger in position for what appeared likely to be the match-ending sequence.
Instead, Aminata kicked out at two.
That near-fall became the pivotal point of the main event. Persephone had controlled long portions of the bout, targeted Aminata’s neck, introduced the chair, and received direct assistance from Baker with the championship itself. Yet Aminata remained in the fight. The kickout denied Persephone the retention she had seemingly set up and forced the champion to confront a challenger who would not stay down.
Queen Aminata survived a title-belt attack from Britt Baker, then delivered Off With Her Head to pin Persephone and win the AEW TBS Championship.
Aminata immediately made the most of the opening. She rocked Persephone with another headbutt, a strike that had proven central to her comeback earlier in the match. Aminata then delivered Off With Her Head and covered Persephone for the winning pinfall.
With that three-count, Aminata captured the AEW TBS Championship and ended Persephone’s run with the title.
A New Direction for the TBS Championship
The outcome changes the landscape around the TBS Championship. Persephone’s reign began with a major victory over Maya World at All In in August and included five successful defenses before Fright Night. Her ability to survive the WrestleDream four-way against Aminata, Hyan, and Dani Luna had already established the challengers waiting in the division. Aminata’s victory now places her at the center of that picture.
For Aminata, the win carries added weight because of the route she had to take in the match itself. She was outwrestled on the mat early, battered in the corners, knocked outside, and repeatedly forced to deal with a champion willing to push the rules and employ outside assistance. She also survived Baker’s belt shot at a point where the title seemed within Persephone’s grasp.
That is the kind of victory that can define a new champion. Aminata did not win through a quick opening or a mistake by Persephone. She endured the former champion’s best stretches of offense, overcame an attempted shortcut involving Baker, and finished the match decisively with her own signature offense.
The closing image of Fright Night was therefore not Persephone celebrating another escape. It was Queen Aminata with the TBS Championship after delivering Off With Her Head in the Dynamite main event.
Persephone’s fifth defense proved to be her last, while Aminata moves forward with the first TBS Championship reign of her AEW career. The champion has changed, and the division now has a new standard-bearer heading out of Fright Night.
