Oba Femi gave WWE fans a major talking point coming out of Money in the Bank when he called for a match with World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns following his victory over Bronson Reed. The reaction was understandable: Femi has been positioned as one of WWE’s most physically overwhelming emerging stars, while Reigns remains one of the company’s defining attractions and its reigning World Heavyweight Champion.

However, the apparent challenge should not be read as an indication that the match is imminent. The current expectation is that WWE is holding off on Femi versus Reigns until WrestleMania 43, rather than moving directly into the bout at Survivor Series: WarGames or during the next premium live event cycle.

The timing matters because Femi’s declaration came in an environment built around momentum. A Money in the Bank victory, a vocal crowd and a post-show appearance created the ideal setting for a young star to state his ambitions. Calling out the top champion is a natural way to establish Femi’s confidence and to tell the audience that he sees himself as belonging at the very highest level. It also immediately invites fans to picture a matchup that would be difficult to ignore.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said Femi’s callout was prompted by the crowd response rather than a signal that the match had been moved forward. “What I was told is that [Femi] was reacting to the crowd and thought that's what he should do because the crowd was really into it,” Meltzer said.

Meltzer added that Survivor Series is not currently the intended destination for the match, with WrestleMania remaining the plan. The distinction is significant. A spontaneous moment can be useful even when it does not immediately become a storyline; it can test audience interest, establish a future program and provide a memorable reference point when the two wrestlers eventually cross paths.

Why WWE Can Let the Femi-Reigns Tease Breathe

Femi challenging Reigns makes sense on several levels. As “The Ruler,” Femi has built his identity around dominance, power and self-assurance. Reigns, meanwhile, is the World Heavyweight Champion and a performer whose status makes him a measuring stick for anyone seeking to be seen as WWE’s next franchise-level force. Femi does not need to win that match for the confrontation to be meaningful, but simply being presented as a credible threat to Reigns would represent a substantial step forward.

At the same time, the report suggests WWE does not intend to rush that elevation. A WrestleMania 43 match would give the company months to further define Femi outside of a single callout, while allowing Reigns to continue on his own championship path. That runway could be especially valuable for Femi, whose current direction became less clear after recent developments involving The Vision and Paul Heyman.

On WWE Raw, Femi stated that he was finished with The Vision. Later in the show, when Heyman appeared to explore the possibility of joining forces, Femi made clear that he was operating on his own terms. He declared himself an “Oba Femi Guy,” a line that reinforces the central element of his character: he is not looking to be another piece in somebody else’s group or a project managed by an established power broker.

That independence could be important if WWE is indeed building toward Reigns. A match with a champion of Reigns’ magnitude is stronger when the challenger arrives with a distinct identity and a clear reason for wanting the title. Femi does not need Heyman, The Vision or another faction to validate his pursuit. His presentation is based on the idea that he is already convinced he is destined to rule WWE.

Reigns Has Major Commitments Before Any Femi Program

Reigns is not currently positioned for an immediate title defense against Femi. Before Survivor Series: WarGames, Reigns is scheduled to challenge Undisputed WWE Champion Sami Zayn for the Crown Jewel Championship in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event remains scheduled for Riyadh despite ongoing armed conflict in the area.

That match places Reigns in a major championship situation of his own. His pursuit of the Crown Jewel Championship against Zayn naturally takes priority over a prospective Femi rivalry, particularly when Femi’s challenge was delivered after an emotionally charged post-show moment rather than through an official storyline confrontation.

Survivor Series: WarGames also appears to have a separate role for Reigns. Current booking indicates that The Bloodline will be involved in the 10-man WarGames match against 946. Carmelo Hayes recently became the fourth member associated with 946 on Raw, with Jaida Parker making the group five in total.

WarGames is built around faction warfare, alliances and multi-person chaos. It is not the kind of setting that naturally lends itself to beginning a focused Reigns-Femi championship feud, particularly if Reigns is tied to The Bloodline’s battle with 946. Meltzer noted that Reigns is expected to be part of the 10-man match, further underscoring why a one-on-one program with Femi is not presently expected for Survivor Series.

Money in the Bank Win Keeps Femi’s Profile Rising

Although the immediate destination of Femi’s path is uncertain, his win over Bronson Reed at Money in the Bank was an important statement. Reed is a formidable opponent in his own right, and defeating him on a major WWE event gave Femi another opportunity to demonstrate both his strength and his ability to perform under a spotlight.

More importantly, the win gave Femi the platform to make the Reigns challenge feel credible. If the callout had come without an impactful result attached to it, it could have come across as little more than an ambitious remark. Coming after a victory over Reed, it instead sounded like the next declaration from a competitor who believes he is ready for larger targets.

WWE can benefit from keeping that feeling alive without immediately committing to the title match. Femi can continue to rack up meaningful wins, establish himself as a self-directed force after separating from The Vision and potentially engage in rivalries that sharpen different parts of his presentation. The eventual story with Reigns would be better served if fans have seen Femi repeatedly back up his words in the months beforehand.

There is also a difference between teasing a WrestleMania opponent and announcing one. The post-Money in the Bank moment gives WWE an opening to revisit whenever it is useful. Reigns and Femi could have another brief confrontation, Femi could reference the championship in promos, or WWE could simply let the idea sit with the audience until the time is right. None of those possibilities require the company to rush a formal match announcement.

A WrestleMania-Scale Collision of Power

If the reported WrestleMania 43 plan holds, Femi versus Reigns would carry a straightforward but compelling premise. Reigns is an established champion with the aura, experience and legacy of a top WWE attraction. Femi is the powerhouse challenger who sees no reason to wait his turn and no need to align with anyone to reach the summit.

That dynamic offers a clean contrast. Reigns has spent years navigating high-pressure championship environments and faction conflict, while Femi’s appeal lies in the belief that his physicality and certainty make him an inevitable future ruler. A title match between them would ask whether Femi’s rise has truly reached the point where he can defeat one of WWE’s most accomplished modern champions.

For now, though, the Money in the Bank callout appears to be a glimpse of a possible WrestleMania destination rather than the start of an immediate chase. Reigns has Sami Zayn, the Crown Jewel Championship and WarGames business in front of him. Femi, meanwhile, has a fresh declaration of independence after distancing himself from The Vision and Paul Heyman’s overtures.

The path is not fully defined, but the post-show moment made one thing clear: Femi sees Roman Reigns’ World Heavyweight Championship as the prize he wants. WWE now has time to decide how best to turn that ambition into a WrestleMania-level confrontation.
