Lil Yachty’s WWE appearances have grown from a celebrity association into a regular on-screen role, and the rapper has now confirmed that he is officially under contract with the company. The revelation adds important context to his sustained involvement alongside Trick Williams, including his recent in-ring debut and the storyline that helped Williams regain the WWE United States Championship.
Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Yachty explained that his formal relationship with WWE began around WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. While major wrestling events frequently feature musicians, athletes, and other entertainment figures for isolated appearances, Yachty said he made clear from the start that he wanted a meaningful role rather than a single cameo.
That commitment has been visible in recent months. Yachty has appeared repeatedly as a supporter, spokesperson, and manager-like presence for Williams on WWE SmackDown. His association with the United States Champion has become one of the more prominent celebrity integrations in current WWE programming, particularly because Yachty has willingly taken physical risks in the story rather than staying at ringside as a purely promotional guest.
How Lil Yachty’s WWE Role Began
Yachty said the opportunity originated through a conversation with WWE’s head of music, Neil Lawi. The rapper recalled telling Lawi to keep him in mind if a chance to work with WWE ever developed. Lawi later returned with a proposal for Yachty to accompany Williams to the ring at WrestleMania 42.

Rather than limiting his involvement to the spectacle of WrestleMania, Yachty wanted to establish why he would be standing alongside Williams in the first place. “I didn’t want to just pop up on WrestleMania,” Yachty said. “I was like, ‘A couple SmackDowns before, could I come to a SmackDown and introduce our friendship?’”
Yachty and Williams had already met twice before the WWE plans came together. However, Yachty indicated that their relationship truly developed once they started communicating directly through messages and phone calls. That real-life familiarity has provided the basis for their television partnership, with Yachty taking a vocal role at Williams’ side as the latter pursued championship success.
At WrestleMania 42, Williams entered the event as the number one contender for the WWE United States Championship, and Yachty’s presence helped position the rapper as more than a famous face making an entrance. The partnership continued past WrestleMania, eventually leading WWE executive Bruce Prichard to offer Yachty a contract.
Yachty Recalls Contract Offer From Bruce Prichard
According to Yachty, Prichard pulled him aside during WrestleMania rehearsals. The rapper initially believed he might be in trouble, only to learn that WWE was offering him a place with the company.
“WrestleMania came, and Bruce Prichard sat me down,” Yachty recalled. “First I thought I was in trouble. He pulled me aside and he was like, ‘You’re here more than I am. What would you say if you come on down and you be with the family?’”
Yachty described the moment as a major personal achievement. He said the offer represented the fulfillment of a goal that he had set for himself, and his response reflected the enthusiasm he has brought to every stage of the WWE relationship.
“When he offered me a contract, I was like, ‘Wow, this is f***ing awesome,’” Yachty said.
The Grammy-nominated artist also stated that this was the first time he had publicly confirmed being under WWE contract. He acknowledged that fans may have simply assumed he was making appearances because of his love for professional wrestling, but said his place with WWE is more official than that.
“I think it’s the first time I publicly said it, on here, that I’m actually on contract,” Yachty said.
Yachty additionally suggested that he believes he may be the first rapper or recording artist to receive such a WWE contract, while recognizing that many celebrities have made appearances for the company over the years. The exact terms, duration, and responsibilities attached to his agreement have not been publicly detailed.
From Ringside Supporter To In-Ring Competitor
The confirmation follows a busy period for Yachty and Williams on WWE television. In early August, WWE and Yachty were reported to be discussing a possible contract extension, signaling that both sides were interested in continuing the relationship beyond its initial arrangement.
At WWE SummerSlam, Yachty accompanied Williams for his United States Championship defense against Baron Corbin. Williams lost the title to Corbin, who then defeated Williams again in a rematch on SmackDown. With the championship seemingly out of reach, Yachty took it upon himself to confront Corbin and attempt to secure one more opening for his friend.
That decision led directly to Yachty’s official WWE in-ring debut at Sunday Night’s Main Event on September 6. The stipulation was straightforward but daunting: Yachty needed to survive five minutes with Corbin. If he lasted the full time, Williams would receive an immediate United States Championship opportunity.
Corbin, known as “The Lone Wolf,” presented a formidable first opponent for a performer making his competitive debut. Yet Yachty managed to hang on long enough to fulfill the condition. By the conclusion of the show’s first hour, Williams had his title match and once again became WWE United States Champion.
The sequence gave Yachty a concrete contribution to Williams’ championship story. He was not merely shown celebrating after a victory or offering encouragement during an entrance; he put himself in a match against Corbin and helped create the circumstances for Williams to reclaim the championship.
Could The Friendship Lead To Lil Yachty Vs. Trick Williams?
As Yachty’s WWE profile has expanded, fans have naturally considered whether his alliance with Williams could eventually produce a match between the two. “On a serious note, [WWE] haven’t said that,” Yachty said. “But I don’t know. I mean, bro, he’s becoming one of my best friends. So I would love nothing more. He’s a good guy. He wouldn’t turn on me. I don’t want to [turn on him]. I don’t want to put that in the air, but...”
That answer leaves the door open without confirming any imminent change to the current alliance. Williams and Yachty remain connected on screen, and Yachty’s latest comments suggest he is invested in continuing to develop in WWE whether that means accompanying the United States Champion, wrestling again himself, or eventually entering a program opposite his friend.
For now, the biggest development is Yachty’s confirmation that his WWE run is not a temporary string of guest spots. His contract status, his willingness to travel and appear before WrestleMania 42, and his decision to wrestle Corbin all point to a performer seeking a lasting place in the company.
