Kit Wilson has opened up about the working relationship he has developed with The Miz on WWE SmackDown, describing the veteran as a valuable mentor whose instincts for entertainment and opportunity have had a major impact on him.
Wilson has been aligned with The Miz since March, following his separation from longtime tag team partner Elton Prince. The pairing has brought together two performers presented as sharply different personalities: The Miz remains the outspoken, highly self-assured former WWE Champion, while Wilson has leaned into a more reserved and sensitive contrast. Yet Wilson believes the differences have helped the act rather than hindered it.
Speaking about their partnership, Wilson said the key connection between them is a shared commitment to getting the most out of every television appearance. That common goal has allowed an alliance that may have appeared unusual at first to become increasingly natural both on screen and away from WWE programming.
“It’s been unbelievable,” Wilson said. “As people, we are different. He is loud, arrogant, and brash, and everything that people describe him as. I’m physically strong, but emotionally stronger. I’m a bit of a sensitive, introverted, clever guy.”

Wilson acknowledged that the two men may not seem like obvious friends based on their individual characteristics. However, he said their approach to performing has made the partnership click. Rather than allowing the contrast in their personalities to create distance, they have used it as a foundation for their segments and stories on SmackDown.
“You wouldn’t really think we’d get along, but we both want to always put on the most entertaining segment possible,” Wilson said. “So, we’ve bonded through that, and we’ve become really close now.”
The Miz and Wilson have featured in a number of comedic segments and storylines since joining forces. Comedy has long been an important part of The Miz’s WWE identity, but his career has also included world championship success, major premium live event matches, extensive media work, and partnerships with a wide range of talent. For Wilson, being placed alongside someone with that level of experience has provided an opportunity to learn from a performer who has remained relevant across multiple eras.
Wilson said their friendship has continued to grow outside the ring as well, noting that they recently spent a holiday vacation together in Australia. That time away from WWE has only strengthened the bond between the SmackDown partners, Wilson said.
“So, we’re closer than ever,” Wilson said.
More importantly for Wilson’s career, he sees The Miz as someone with an exceptional grasp of professional wrestling and the broader demands of WWE television. The Miz has been in WWE for 20 years, a run that has seen him work with many of the company’s biggest names and defeat numerous top-level opponents. Wilson emphasized that history when explaining why he values the advice he receives from his current partner.
“But the man is full of wisdom,” Wilson said. “The man has been doing this for 20 years. He’s done it with the best. He beat the best. And he just has so much knowledge.”
That knowledge, in Wilson’s view, is not limited to the mechanics of wrestling matches or the delivery of a promo. He specifically pointed to The Miz’s ability to identify openings and turn them into meaningful moments. In WWE, where performers are routinely asked to make the most of limited time, character-driven material, and constantly changing stories, that skill can be as significant as athletic ability.
Wilson said The Miz does not wait passively for opportunities. Instead, he creates them. By working beside him, Wilson believes he is gaining a better understanding of how to recognize a chance to stand out and how to capitalize once it arrives.
“He makes opportunities for himself, and he’s making opportunities, therefore, for me,” Wilson said. “And he’s teaching me how to make an opportunity and how to take an opportunity.”
The comments arrive at a consequential point in Wilson’s WWE run. His prior association with Elton Prince made him a familiar presence in the tag team division, but the split opened the door for a different direction. Partnering with The Miz has given Wilson a chance to establish himself in a new setting, with a former WWE Champion positioned as both an ally and an on-screen guide.
There is a clear contrast in the way the duo is presented. The Miz’s loud confidence, polished delivery, and tendency to place himself at the center of any situation can play effectively against Wilson’s description of himself as introverted and emotionally aware. Wilson’s physical strength also gives the team another dimension. Their compatibility, then, is not based on being alike; it is based on understanding what each brings to a segment and using those opposing traits to make the material more entertaining.
Wilson’s remarks also speak to the value of an experienced partner in a WWE environment. The Miz’s longevity has required constant adaptation. Over two decades, he has navigated changing rosters, different creative roles, championship programs, tag teams, rivalry-driven stories, and entertainment-heavy segments. Wilson clearly sees that sustained experience as a resource he can draw upon while defining the next phase of his own career.
For The Miz, the endorsement is another indication of the respect he has earned among colleagues. Wilson said he does not believe The Miz receives enough credit for what he brings to WWE. While The Miz’s brash persona has always been central to his character, Wilson’s assessment focuses on the work behind that presentation: preparation, experience, knowledge, and an understanding of how to make material connect.
Wilson is optimistic that the relationship will be a catalyst for significant progress. He predicted that the coming six to 12 months could represent a major change in his WWE career, with The Miz’s guidance playing an important role in that development. It is not a guarantee of any specific result, but it makes clear that Wilson sees this period as more than a temporary adjustment following the end of his previous team.
That outlook is particularly notable because Wilson is not describing The Miz merely as a familiar veteran presence. He views him as an active collaborator who is helping create room for both men to succeed. The Miz’s ability to find opportunities is, Wilson believes, directly benefiting his own position on SmackDown while also giving him lessons he can carry forward independently.
Whether the partnership ultimately leads to greater success in the tag division, expanded singles opportunities, or additional character-driven stories remains to be seen. What is clear from Wilson’s comments is that he is embracing the alliance and believes it has already changed his outlook. The combination of entertainment-focused segments, growing personal trust, and access to The Miz’s long WWE experience has given Wilson renewed confidence in what could be ahead.
For now, Wilson is proud to work alongside The Miz, and he is approaching the partnership as a chance to absorb as much as possible from one of WWE’s most durable and adaptable performers. Their personalities may be very different, but their shared aim is simple: make every opportunity count and deliver the most entertaining work possible on SmackDown.
