Dominik Mysterio is not limiting himself to one championship pursuit as he considers his next major objective in WWE.
After losing the AAA MEGA Championship to El Grand Americano at AAA TripleMania, Mysterio is currently without a title belt. That situation has apparently broadened his focus rather than narrowed it. The Judgment Day member has identified several possible directions, ranging from a personal issue with World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns to a potential challenge for Sami Zayn’s WWE Championship.
Mysterio also raised the prospect of returning to the Intercontinental Championship picture, while making clear he has not ruled out pursuing WWE tag team gold with JD McDonagh. His comments underline that, in his view, there are several routes back to championship status.
Roman Reigns remains a personal possibility
The most striking name on Mysterio’s list is Roman Reigns. The World Heavyweight Champion represents the highest-profile singles target mentioned, and Mysterio framed a possible chase as one driven by unresolved resentment as much as championship ambition.

“There’s a lot of things I’d like to get done,” Mysterio said. “I got some beef with [world heavyweight champion] Roman [Reigns] kind of. He tried to throw me out of the ring and end my career one time.”
That recollection gives Mysterio a clear reason to look in Reigns’ direction should an opportunity arise. A championship challenge for the World Heavyweight Title would be a significant undertaking, but Mysterio did not dismiss the possibility. Instead, he presented Reigns as one of several reigning champions or title paths that remain on his radar.
The wording is notable. Mysterio did not announce an immediate program with Reigns, nor did he claim that a title match has been arranged. He simply made it clear that he remembers their prior physical confrontation and sees a lingering issue there. In WWE, old confrontations frequently become the foundation for new rivalries when championship stakes enter the equation.
For Mysterio, the appeal of challenging Reigns would extend beyond replacing a lost championship. It would offer an opportunity to answer a past humiliation and pursue the biggest prize he named. Whether that develops into a direct pursuit remains uncertain, but Mysterio has put the World Heavyweight Champion on notice as a figure he has not forgotten.
Sami Zayn and the WWE Championship are also in the conversation
Mysterio also pointed toward Sami Zayn, whose WWE Championship is tied to a history involving The Judgment Day and Kevin Owens. Rather than describing the matter as a newly formed dispute, Mysterio stressed the existing connections among the people involved.
“Sami Zayn, on the other hand, we’ve got a lot of history with Sami and Kevin [Owens] in The Judgment Day, so maybe there’s something over there with the WWE title on the line.”
That history gives Mysterio another potential championship route with built-in personal stakes. His reference to Zayn and Owens suggests that any move toward the WWE Championship could quickly become larger than a straightforward one-on-one title challenge. The Judgment Day’s past issues with both men are part of the backdrop Mysterio identified, and the group dynamic could remain relevant if he chooses to make Zayn a priority.
Importantly, Mysterio did not declare that he is choosing Zayn over Reigns. His comments were a survey of possibilities, not a final decision. Still, putting the WWE Championship alongside the World Heavyweight Championship in the same discussion shows the scale of his ambitions following the loss at TripleMania.
It also demonstrates that Mysterio is thinking beyond a single division. A wrestler who is willing to name both of WWE’s top singles championships is signaling confidence in his ability to step into major programs. The practical question is which rivalry, if any, becomes urgent enough to move from talk to action first.
A return to the Intercontinental Championship picture
While world championship opportunities would represent the largest possible targets, Mysterio also singled out a title he has held before. The Intercontinental Championship remains a meaningful objective for him, and his phrasing left little doubt that he views another run at it as unfinished business.
“Maybe I want my IC title back.”
That brief statement carries weight because it is rooted in Mysterio’s own championship history. Rather than approaching the Intercontinental Title as an unfamiliar goal, he sees it as something he can reclaim. That distinction could shape the tone of any future pursuit: Mysterio would not be attempting to prove that he belongs in the division for the first time; he would be attempting to restore a position he believes was already his.
The Intercontinental Championship route would also fit naturally with Mysterio’s broader comments about taking things step by step. It remains a major WWE singles title while offering a different route from the enormous immediate challenge of facing either Reigns or Zayn. Yet Mysterio did not characterize it as a consolation prize. By calling it his IC title, he made clear that reacquiring it would matter personally.
There is no indication that Mysterio has settled on this option. Still, the Intercontinental Championship is now firmly included among the goals he wants to accomplish. With his AAA MEGA Championship reign over, the desire to once again hold a singles title is plainly part of his current mindset.
JD McDonagh could be Mysterio’s partner in a tag title chase
Mysterio’s aspirations are not restricted to singles competition. He specifically mentioned teaming with JD McDonagh in a bid for the tag team championships, framing it as an opportunity to bring gold to his Judgment Day ally as well.
“Maybe I wanna go for the tag titles with JD, get him some gold too.”
That comment reinforces the importance of McDonagh within Mysterio’s list of potential plans. A tag title pursuit would allow Mysterio to chase a championship while strengthening a key partnership inside The Judgment Day. It would also give him a route to gold that is distinct from his individual rivalries with Reigns, Zayn, and anyone involved in the Intercontinental Title scene.
Whether a Mysterio-McDonagh team formally enters a championship chase remains to be seen. Mysterio did not identify a particular tag team as an opponent or suggest that a match is already in motion. But he did make the objective clear: if he and McDonagh pursue the division, the purpose would be to win titles.
The possibility is especially interesting because it reflects the balance in Mysterio’s ambitions. He wants individual achievements, including world titles and a return to the Intercontinental Championship, but he is also willing to pursue success alongside a stablemate. For a wrestler operating within The Judgment Day, that combination of individual drive and group loyalty could be central to whatever comes next.
Taking the next move one day at a time
Despite the number of championships and opponents he mentioned, Mysterio stopped short of declaring a definitive next challenger. His closing thought was measured, even as the list of possible goals was expansive.
“Who knows? There’s a lot of things I’d like to get done, but we’re taking it one day at a time.”
That patience may be the most important part of Mysterio’s message. He has identified four distinct championship directions: the World Heavyweight Championship held by Reigns, the WWE Championship held by Zayn, the Intercontinental Championship he wants back, and tag team gold with McDonagh. But identifying opportunities is different from committing to one.
For now, Mysterio’s title picture is defined by possibility. The loss of the AAA MEGA Championship to El Grand Americano at TripleMania removed the belt he had been carrying, but it did not leave him without ambition. If anything, it has put a wider set of WWE prizes in his sights.
The next development will determine whether Mysterio’s personal issue with Reigns takes precedence, whether Judgment Day’s past with Zayn and Owens pulls him toward the WWE Championship, whether he makes a determined push to regain the Intercontinental Title, or whether McDonagh becomes his partner in a tag team championship bid. Mysterio has not chosen publicly. What he has made clear is that he sees no shortage of gold worth pursuing.
