Halloween brought a major reveal to WWE SmackDown as Finn Bálor’s Demon persona returned for the first time since WrestleMania 42, emerging as the answer to Danhausen’s long-running “experiment” and taking down GUNTHER in emphatic fashion.
The segment closed the night with one of SmackDown’s most striking images: The Demon standing in the ring alongside Danhausen after GUNTHER had been driven through the announce desk by a Coup de Grâce from the top of a ladder. It was a dramatic shift in the ongoing conflict between Danhausen and GUNTHER, with the former’s strange warnings and experiments finally producing a very tangible threat.
Danhausen appeared earlier in the segment in his role as SmackDown’s Halloween host. For months, he had been teasing an experiment without disclosing exactly what he had been working toward. The mystery became the focal point of the night once GUNTHER made his entrance and immediately resumed his campaign of punishment against Danhausen.
GUNTHER was in no mood for Halloween theatrics or unanswered questions. He attacked Danhausen and put him through a table, once again asserting control over the situation before anyone could learn the identity of the experiment. The attack initially appeared to be another one-sided statement from GUNTHER, who had already made a habit of overwhelming Danhausen physically.

GUNTHER Overpowers Danhausen and the Minihausens
Danhausen was not entirely alone during the confrontation. A group of Minihausens ran to ringside in an attempt to come to his aid, turning the scene into an appropriately chaotic Halloween presentation. Their intervention did not slow GUNTHER down.
GUNTHER disposed of the Minihausens with the same ruthless efficiency he had shown toward Danhausen. Pumpkins were hurled at them, and the assault escalated when one Minihausen was powerbombed through another and through the table on which they were positioned. The moment underscored just how thoroughly GUNTHER had taken over the ring and its surroundings.
With Danhausen and his would-be rescuers incapacitated, GUNTHER prepared to deliver even more punishment. He set up another table and trapped Danhausen in a rear choke, appearing to position him for another table-breaking attack. Danhausen struggled but was unable to break free from GUNTHER’s control.
That was when the tone of the segment changed completely. Danhausen cursed GUNTHER, and the arena lights went out. A heartbeat then began to sound throughout the venue. As the heartbeat grew progressively faster, the reveal that Danhausen had been teasing finally arrived.
The Experiment Is Revealed
Finn Bálor emerged from a gurney in full Demon presentation. The visual confirmed that The Demon was Danhausen’s experiment, a revelation that gave the months of teases a clear and powerful payoff. Bálor had not appeared in the war paint since WrestleMania 42, making the return an especially significant moment for both his character and SmackDown.
The Demon did not rush into the ring recklessly. Instead, Bálor slowly approached GUNTHER, creating a tense standoff between two imposing presences. GUNTHER, who had spent the preceding minutes dismantling everyone around him, showed visible fear as Bálor confronted him.
GUNTHER attempted to halt the advance by striking Bálor with his belt. The attack had no effect on The Demon, and it only appeared to reinforce the aura of the returning persona. After enduring the belt shot, Bálor immediately moved onto the attack.
He delivered a dropkick that sent GUNTHER crashing through the table GUNTHER himself had set up. The reversal carried a degree of poetic justice: the table GUNTHER had intended to use against Danhausen instead became part of his own downfall.
Bálor was not finished after the table spot. He placed GUNTHER on the announce desk at ringside, then climbed a ladder. From there, The Demon delivered the Coup de Grâce, driving GUNTHER through the desk in the segment’s decisive final blow.
A Statement From The Demon
The return was more than a Halloween surprise. Bálor’s Demon persona arrived with a direct physical statement against GUNTHER, who had been dominating the entire scene until the lights went out. GUNTHER had beaten down Danhausen, brushed aside the Minihausens, and prepared to leave further wreckage behind. By the end of the segment, he was the one left broken amid the remains of the announce desk.
The closing visual saw Bálor return to the ring and pose alongside Danhausen. That image established a clear connection between the two, at least within the context of this reveal. Danhausen’s experiment was not simply a threat he had created in theory; it was The Demon Finn Bálor, and it had been unleashed specifically when GUNTHER seemed untouchable.
For Danhausen, the development changes the balance of power in a rivalry that had repeatedly put him at GUNTHER’s mercy. His curses and warnings had not protected him from the initial assault, and he still suffered significant punishment before the reveal. But his plan ultimately worked. Once The Demon appeared, GUNTHER’s control over the situation disappeared almost immediately.
For Bálor, the return restores a persona that has historically been presented as a darker and more intense version of himself. The Demon’s first appearance since WrestleMania 42 was carefully framed as an event rather than a routine entrance. The gurney, the blackout, the accelerating heartbeat, and GUNTHER’s reaction all built the return as something GUNTHER could not simply overpower in the way he had overpowered Danhausen and the Minihausens.
What the SmackDown Moment Means
WWE did not spell out the full scope of the arrangement between Danhausen and Bálor during the segment, nor was any subsequent match or formal challenge established in the ring. What was made clear, however, was that GUNTHER now has a problem he did not anticipate.
Before The Demon’s arrival, GUNTHER had every reason to believe he could continue treating Danhausen as a target for humiliation and destruction. He had already put Danhausen through a table and had nearly delivered another table-assisted attack. The appearance of The Demon stopped that momentum and left GUNTHER on the receiving end of a memorable beating.
The segment also leaves open the question of whether this was a singular Halloween manifestation of The Demon or the beginning of a sustained alliance between Bálor and Danhausen. The presentation strongly linked Danhausen’s experiment to Bálor’s alter ego, but the immediate aftermath focused on the destruction of GUNTHER rather than an explanation of how the partnership came together.
Regardless of how that relationship develops, GUNTHER has now experienced firsthand what Danhausen had been building toward. The final sequence gave The Demon a dominant reintroduction: an ineffective belt strike, a dropkick through a table, and a ladder-assisted Coup de Grâce through the announce desk.
SmackDown’s Halloween host may have spent much of the confrontation being battered by GUNTHER, but Danhausen had the final surprise. The lights went out, the heartbeat rose, and Finn Bálor returned in war paint. When the night ended, The Demon and Danhausen were standing tall in the ring while GUNTHER was left laid out at ringside.
