Charlotte Flair has spent the overwhelming majority of her WWE career standing on her own.
Whether she has been pursuing a championship, leading a division, confronting a rival or reinforcing her place at the top of WWE’s women’s roster, Flair’s on-screen identity has generally been built around confidence, authority and independence. The Queen is not typically presented as a character looking for validation or needing someone at her side. That consistency has been a major part of her presentation through her main-roster run.
Still, Flair is interested in exploring a different dimension of that character. Speaking with rugby union star Ilona Maher on Power Hour with Ilona Maher, Flair said she would like to take part in a romance storyline in WWE one day.
“I put it out in the universe [that I want a romantic storyline]. Let’s see if it catches something,” Flair said.

The idea is notable precisely because it would be a departure from the type of material Flair has usually received. A romance angle would not necessarily mean that her character has to stop being ambitious, ruthless or championship-focused. In Flair’s view, it could instead reveal a more playful quality that audiences have not often seen from her in a WWE storyline.
She explained that she has never been paired with a male wrestler in that way, nor has she even had a small flirtatious interaction built into her WWE television character.
“I just have never been paired with a male or ever had like, even like a, ‘Hey [from another wrestler],’” Flair said. “So, it’d just be like so fun for me.”
A Different Side of The Queen
Flair’s comments do not indicate that a romance program has been planned, that a WWE performer has been selected for such a role, or that the company is moving in that direction. Rather, she is expressing interest in an avenue she believes could be enjoyable and creatively fresh for her. That distinction matters, especially for a performer whose WWE career has been defined by major singles programs and title-centered stories.
A romantic storyline can take many forms in professional wrestling. It can be comedic, antagonistic, dramatic or tied directly into a larger rivalry. In Flair’s case, the challenge would be finding a concept that feels consistent with the status she has established. She has long been presented as someone who expects to be treated like a star and who has little patience for anyone questioning her standing.
Flair herself acknowledged that question while considering whether there is a male WWE character strong enough to complement her presence on screen. Her fan base has raised the same point, with some supporters arguing that The Queen should not be paired with just anyone.
“A couple of my fans were like, ‘Dude, there’s no one good enough for the queen,’” Flair said. “And I was like, ‘That’s the greatest line.’”
That reaction speaks to the balance a potential storyline would require. Flair has built her identity around being self-sufficient, and a pairing that made her appear secondary would run against the appeal of her established character. At the same time, Flair does not see the concept as a rejection of independence. She views it as an opportunity to demonstrate that strength and flirtation do not have to be opposing traits.
“We’re so independent, we don’t need a male,” Flair said. “But I just thought it’d be like fun to show that like, ‘Hey, I’m not so cold, right? Like, I can be flirty.’”
That is the central creative idea behind Flair’s interest. A romance angle, if it ever happened, could be used to add personality without altering the fundamental premise of her character. The story would need to preserve the aura that has made Flair a perennial centerpiece of WWE’s women’s division while allowing viewers to see a more lighthearted side of her.
Championship Goals Remain Central
Flair’s interest in a different kind of storyline does not diminish her familiar competitive goals. She recently named another world championship as something she would like to accomplish in WWE, with a 15th world title standing as a major target.
That ambition fits the career Flair has had. Championships have been an essential part of her WWE identity, and she has consistently been connected to the biggest stakes available in the women’s division. A run toward another world title is therefore a natural objective for her character and for a performer who has repeatedly been positioned as one of WWE’s premier stars.
The possibility of mixing personal storytelling with championship stakes is also not foreign to WWE. The company has regularly used emotional conflicts, alliances and relationship-based angles to add layers to title pursuits. For Flair, though, the key would be ensuring that any personal narrative serves the larger presentation rather than distracting from her goal of remaining at the top of the division.
There is no shortage of room for a star of Flair’s stature to move between those lanes. Her career has included defining rivalries, championship programs and prominent roles on WWE television. A romance storyline would stand out because it would represent an unfamiliar wrinkle, not because it would replace the elements that have made her character successful.
Cody Rhodes Mentioned as a Potential Story Possibility
Flair has also discussed the possibility of a storyline involving Cody Rhodes. She believes there is already a built-in foundation for a program with Rhodes because of his late father, Dusty Rhodes, who trained Flair.
That history gives the idea a personal connection that would not need to be created from nothing. Dusty Rhodes remains an important figure in both performers’ lives and careers: he was Cody Rhodes’ father, and Flair has credited him as the person who trained her. Any on-screen story drawing from that background would carry an obvious emotional and historical hook.
Flair’s mention of Rhodes does not confirm a future angle between them, romantic or otherwise. WWE has not been identified as moving toward that program. But it illustrates what Flair appears to be seeking in a potential new type of story: a partner or counterpart with enough credibility, character strength and shared history to make the angle feel meaningful.
Rhodes is one of the most prominent male stars in WWE, and his family connection to Dusty Rhodes has been a major part of his own on-screen identity. Flair’s relationship with Dusty adds a separate but genuine piece of history. That combination makes the concept easy to understand, even if it remains only a possibility she has discussed.
Flair Wants to Expand, Not Reinvent, Her Character
For WWE, the value of a potential Flair romance angle would be in its ability to reveal a new aspect of a well-known performer. After years as a serious and driven singles star, Flair has a clear sense of why the idea appeals to her. She is not suggesting that The Queen become less confident or less focused. She is suggesting that the character can have a sense of fun while retaining the standards and self-belief that define her.
That could be particularly effective if the story acknowledges the audience perception Flair referenced: that finding someone “good enough for the queen” is itself part of the drama. Rather than asking fans to forget her independence, a storyline could use it as the central tension. Any wrestler entering Flair’s orbit would have to contend with a character who is accustomed to doing everything on her own and who has spent years proving that she does not need anyone’s help.
For now, Flair has simply made her preference known. She would enjoy the opportunity to work in a romantic WWE storyline, particularly because it would allow for material unlike anything she has regularly done on the main roster. At the same time, her world title ambitions remain intact, including the pursuit of a 15th championship.
Whether WWE eventually acts on the idea remains to be seen. But Flair has made the creative case for it herself: a romance angle would not have to soften The Queen. It could instead show that one of WWE’s most independent stars has more range to explore than the cold, title-chasing persona audiences have come to expect.
