Wren Sinclair found a way around her suspension on the October 6 edition of WWE NXT, emerging from a chaotic 20-woman number one contenders battle royal with a WWE NXT Women’s Championship match in hand.

The stakes were clear from the outset: the winner would challenge Kelani Jordan for the NXT Women’s Championship at Halloween Havoc 2026. The field, however, was anything but ordinary. NXT’s women’s division was joined by competitors representing TNA, AAA, and EVOLVE, creating a wide-open contest full of shifting alliances, familiar rivalries, outside chaos, and a final reveal that changed the entire result.

Lady Shani appeared to be the woman who survived the field and claimed the opportunity. But after eliminating Kali Armstrong at the finish, Shani removed her mask and revealed herself as Sinclair. Commentary confirmed that the suspended NXT competitor was officially the new number one contender, meaning Jordan now has a very unexpected challenger waiting for her at Halloween Havoc.

A crowded field produces immediate eliminations

The battle royal moved quickly from the opening bell, with the competitors recognizing that there was little value in waiting for the ring to clear itself. Layla Diggs was among the first wrestlers eliminated when Izzi Dame sent her over the top rope. Dame’s momentum did not last long, though, as Zaria eliminated her shortly afterward.

AAA representative Reina Volcan became one of the early focal points of the match. Volcan established herself as a major physical threat by eliminating both Skylar Raye and Adelicious. Chantel Monroe was also eliminated during the match’s commercial break, further thinning a field that began with 20 women.

With so many wrestlers in the ring, survival was often as important as landing a major move. Several competitors spent extended stretches trying to hold their place on the apron, where one mistake could end their title hopes. Arianna Grace ultimately found herself in that vulnerable position and was thrown to the floor.

The TNA contingent also took a significant hit when the members of the Elegance Brand, Heather and M, were both eliminated after a miscommunication. In a match where partnerships could provide temporary protection, the breakdown between the two TNA stars proved costly.

Apron battles and cross-promotional clashes shape the match

One of the more dramatic exchanges featured Ivy Nile and Lizzy Rain battling on the apron. Rain delivered a diving headbutt, and Nile lost her balance and fell to the floor, ending her run in the battle royal. Rain then shifted into a more strategic role, directing the action as the remaining competitors worked together to remove Volcan from the ring.

Volcan’s elimination did not bring an end to her impact on the match. Before departing the ringside area, she made sure to leave her mark on AAA’s Lady Shani. Volcan dragged Shani to the outside and drove her down with a Snap Powerslam. Crucially, however, Shani had been pulled beneath the ropes rather than thrown over the top rope. She was down, but she had not been eliminated.

That technical detail became the key to the entire match.

While Shani remained out of sight and appeared to be out of the equation, the battle royal continued to narrow. Nikkita Lyons was eliminated, while Dame returned to the scene looking for retaliation against Zaria. Dame’s second appearance in the action did not change her fortunes. Zaria threw her out again, only to be eliminated herself soon after by Kali Armstrong. Dame and Zaria then continued their confrontation on the outside.

TNA’s Xia Brookside was eliminated by Indi Hartwell, but Brookside immediately pulled Hartwell out as well. Their involvement in the battle royal added another layer to a rivalry that is set to continue at TNA Bound For Glory on October 11.

As the ring emptied, familiar NXT names including Thea Hail, La Catalina, and Kiana James were unable to make it to the final stages. Their eliminations left Rain and Armstrong fighting for position on the apron, with Armstrong ultimately gaining the advantage and knocking Rain out.

Kali Armstrong believes she has won

Armstrong’s elimination of Rain appeared to settle the match. With the visible field cleared, Armstrong celebrated and began talking trash toward Jordan, who was watching from the perch inside the WWE Performance Center.

It was an understandable reaction. Armstrong had outlasted a large and diverse field, survived the disorder around the ring, and disposed of the competitor who seemed to be the final obstacle. In a normal battle royal scenario, that would have been enough to secure a championship opportunity.

But Lady Shani had never been eliminated.

Because Volcan had taken Shani under the ropes before delivering the Snap Powerslam on the outside, Shani remained legally involved in the match. After Armstrong had turned her attention toward Jordan, Shani returned and took advantage of the opening. She dumped Armstrong over the top rope, ending Armstrong’s celebration and apparently winning the battle royal.

The victory celebration took an even bigger turn seconds later. Lady Shani removed her mask, revealing that she was not Lady Shani at all. Underneath the mask was Sinclair.

Wren Sinclair turns a loophole into a title match

Sinclair’s appearance raised the central question of the night: how did a suspended wrestler enter and win a match that was supposed to determine Jordan’s next challenger? The answer, at least within the battle royal itself, was the disguise. Sinclair competed under Lady Shani’s mask and identity, stayed protected outside the ring when Volcan’s attack came beneath the ropes, and returned at precisely the right moment to eliminate Armstrong.

The commentary team identified Sinclair following the unmasking and confirmed her as the number one contender. That confirmation puts the NXT Women’s Championship match at Halloween Havoc on the calendar, with Jordan set to defend against a challenger who has already demonstrated a willingness to exploit every available opening.

There is an important distinction in how Sinclair achieved the opportunity. She did not simply overpower the entire field from bell to bell. Instead, the outcome hinged on deception, match awareness, and the fact that she was never officially thrown over the top rope. In battle royal rules, remaining legal is all that matters, and Sinclair used that rule to transform a concealed presence into a championship match.

For Jordan, the outcome means that her next defense will carry an unusual level of uncertainty. The champion observed Armstrong’s apparent win from above, only to see the situation unravel when Sinclair revealed herself. Jordan now knows she will be facing a wrestler willing to use a disguise and exploit a technicality, but the champion also has several weeks before Halloween Havoc to prepare for the challenge.

Armstrong, meanwhile, has a legitimate reason to be furious. She had eliminated Zaria, survived to the final stage, removed Rain, and believed she had won before Sinclair’s return. Her defeat came not through a conventional exchange in the closing moments, but because a competitor everyone believed had been taken out was still eligible to re-enter the match.

The larger result is a significant twist in the NXT Women’s Championship picture. Jordan entered the night waiting to learn which of 20 women would emerge as her challenger. By the end of the battle royal, the answer was Sinclair, a suspended competitor who circumvented the expected process by hiding in plain sight behind Lady Shani’s mask.

At Halloween Havoc 2026, Kelani Jordan will defend the WWE NXT Women’s Championship against Wren Sinclair. The route to the match may have been unconventional, but the title opportunity is now official.
