Sunil Singh has revealed that he suffered a collapsed lung during a wrestling match on Saturday night, describing the incident as one of the most frightening experiences of his life and saying an emergency room doctor told him he was fortunate to have survived.

Singh, one half of the Bollywood Boyz alongside his brother Samir Singh, shared a personal update after the medical emergency. He said the injury occurred while he was performing a move he has done for years, with hospital X-rays confirming that his right lung had collapsed following the impact.

“Lucky to be alive today,” Singh wrote. “Saturday night was one of the most frightening experiences of my life. While performing in the ring, doing a move I’ve done for years, hospital X-Rays revealed I suffered a collapsed lung on my right side from the impact.”

The veteran performer recalled experiencing immediate respiratory distress during and after the match. Singh said he was gasping for air and struggling to breathe without understanding at that moment exactly what was happening or how severe the situation had become. Though the match was completed, he said his condition deteriorated once he reached the backstage area.

“In those moments, I was gasping for air and struggling to breathe, not knowing what was happening or how serious it was,” Singh said. “When the match finished and I got to the backstage area, I couldn’t get to my feet and was still finding it difficult to breathe. For a moment, it truly felt like I was facing death.”

ER Doctor’s Words Remain With Singh

Singh said the doctor who treated him in the emergency room delivered a message that has continued to stay with him in the days since the injury. The wrestler relayed that he was told he had been very lucky and credited the sentiment with underscoring the gravity of what had happened.

“The ER doctor said, ‘You are very lucky that to be alive. You had angels watching over you.’ Those words still echo through my ears,” Singh wrote.

A collapsed lung is a serious medical issue, and Singh’s account makes clear that the episode was not initially something he could immediately identify from inside the ring. Professional wrestling carries unavoidable physical risks, even for experienced athletes performing maneuvers that have become routine through years of training and repetition. Singh specifically emphasized that the move involved was not unfamiliar to him, making the incident particularly sobering.

“I’ve spent decades doing what I love, stepping into that ring and giving everything I have,” Singh said. “Never did I imagine that a move I’ve performed countless times could lead to something so terrifying.”

Rather than focusing only on the injury itself, Singh also spoke candidly about the thoughts running through his mind while he was unable to breathe normally. He said he feared he might die, and that his mind went to his young son and the everyday time they share together away from wrestling.

“I didn’t want to die and the only thing I could think of at the time was ‘How will I take my son to hockey and get onto the ice with him?’” Singh wrote.

Gratitude for Pure Power Wrestling and Those at the Venue

Singh thanked the people who helped him after the match, including Pure Power Wrestling, the locker room, his brother, and the medical team. He specifically credited those involved with helping get medical personnel to the venue in time, a response that clearly mattered in a moment when his condition had become frighteningly serious.

The appreciation for his brother was especially notable considering the Bollywood Boyz’ lengthy shared journey in professional wrestling. Sunil and Samir Singh have been a team throughout much of their careers, building their identities together across the independent scene and on major platforms. In a crisis that unfolded at a wrestling event, Sunil’s message made clear that the bond between the brothers extended well beyond their on-screen partnership.

“I’m incredibly grateful to be here, and I want to thank everyone at Pure Power Wrestling, the locker room and especially my brother, that helped get the medical team to the venue on time,” Singh said.

Singh did not announce a timetable for a return to the ring. Instead, he said he will be attending follow-up appointments and approaching recovery carefully.

“I’ll be going for follow up appointments soon and I’m taking things one breath, one day, and one step at a time,” Singh wrote.

That measured approach is understandable following an injury that Singh himself described in life-and-death terms. His statement did not offer further medical specifics beyond the collapsed right lung, and there is no indication yet of when he might be cleared for any form of wrestling activity. For now, Singh’s attention is on his appointments, healing, and the support around him.

A Career Built on Persistence After WWE

While reflecting on the incident, Singh also looked back at the past five years of his career. He described the period after WWE as both rewarding and demanding, emphasizing the work that he and his brother have put into rebuilding and continuing their careers.

The Bollywood Boyz became widely familiar to fans through their time in WWE, where they worked as the Singh Brothers and were closely associated with Jinder Mahal during Mahal’s WWE Championship run. The duo’s presentation combined charisma, timing, athleticism, and a willingness to take memorable bumps in high-profile segments. Their history together, however, extends far beyond that run, with both brothers having accumulated extensive experience over decades in the industry.

Since leaving WWE, the brothers have remained active and have continued to work toward establishing the next phase of their professional lives. Sunil’s message framed those years as meaningful because of the effort required to keep moving forward, not simply because of the matches or appearances themselves.

“The past 5 years, post WWE, have been some of the most rewarding and hardworking years of my life and I don’t want any of it to go to waste,” Singh said. “My brother and I have worked tirelessly to land back on our feet.”

Those words give added context to the emotional weight of the injury. Singh did not present the incident as a reason to diminish what wrestling has meant to him. On the contrary, he spoke about a lifelong commitment to the profession and the value he places on the opportunities he and Samir have continued to pursue. At the same time, his account is an unflinching reminder of how abruptly a routine moment in a match can become a medical emergency.

Support Continues for the Bollywood Boyz Veteran

Singh closed his message by thanking those who have reached out with support. The update was deeply personal, balancing gratitude with the trauma of a situation he said left him fearing for his life. His focus now is on recovery, follow-up care, and taking the process at the pace his health requires.

For wrestlers, locker rooms, promoters, and fans, situations like this reinforce the importance of medical preparedness at events and of taking breathing problems and chest injuries seriously after an impact. Singh’s experience also highlights the physical unpredictability inherent to the profession. Familiarity with a maneuver can reduce risk through experience and training, but it cannot eliminate every possible consequence of a hard landing or collision.

Sunil Singh’s update is ultimately one of survival and perspective. He is grateful to the people who responded around him, grateful to have reached medical care, and grateful for the family moments he feared he could lose. No return plans have been announced, but Singh’s immediate priority is clear: recover fully, attend his follow-up appointments, and continue taking recovery one breath, one day, and one step at a time.

The professional wrestling community will undoubtedly be hoping for a smooth recovery for Singh as he heals from the collapsed lung and regains his strength.
