Sami Zayn has reached the mountaintop of WWE as the Undisputed WWE Champion, but he still views his unforgettable role in The Bloodline saga as a defining benchmark for everything that came before it.

At WWE Night of Champions 2026, Zayn defeated Cody Rhodes to capture the Undisputed WWE Championship. The victory delivered Zayn his first world championship in WWE and marked the biggest singles accomplishment of a career that has included acclaimed runs across multiple eras of the company. Yet, when asked to identify his career peak prior to winning the title, Zayn pointed to the story that transformed him from an entertaining outsider into one of WWE's most emotionally resonant central characters: his time as The Bloodline's “Honorary Uce.”

Speaking on Insight With Chris Van Vliet, Zayn said the Bloodline material would likely have stood as the defining chapter of his WWE career had his world-title breakthrough never happened.

“Probably Bloodline stuff [was the career peak],” Zayn said. “I think that's probably what I'd be best remembered for if my career ended before I won the world title or whatever; it might still be what I'm most remembered for 20 years from now if people remember anything about me 20 years from now. But I was also just very proud of it.”

Zayn was careful not to reduce his career to one program. He stressed that there are many accomplishments and periods of work he is proud of, while recognizing the particular scale and lasting impact of the Bloodline story. That distinction is important now that he has added the Undisputed WWE Championship to his résumé. The Night of Champions win has changed the conversation around Zayn's legacy, but it has not diminished the significance of the storyline that helped bring him to that level.

From peripheral character to Honorary Uce

Zayn's involvement with The Bloodline began in the spring of 2022. At the outset, the premise centered on Zayn's desire to gain approval from Roman Reigns and the dominant Samoan stable around him. It was a role that allowed Zayn to lean into the blend of insecurity, comedy, sincerity, and persistence that has long made him a unique WWE performer.

The early dynamic was built around uncertainty. Zayn wanted in, but not everyone in the group was interested in granting him a place. Reigns remained the final authority, while Jey Uso in particular became a key obstacle. The tension between Zayn's unwavering efforts to prove himself and the suspicion from those already closest to Reigns gave the program a clear emotional engine.

Rather than remaining a short-term supporting act, the story continued to grow. Zayn gradually earned the trust of members of The Bloodline, as well as the investment of the WWE audience. His eventual formal identification as the “Honorary Uce” became one of the most popular character developments on WWE television, turning a premise that could have been a brief detour into a major piece of the company's ongoing top storyline.

Zayn explained that his initial vision had been considerably less central than what ultimately reached the screen.

“My intent in the beginning was more to be kind of like on the periphery, [but] it evolved,” Zayn said. “And that's part of the beauty of it. Part of why I loved it so much is the week-to-week adaptation.”

That flexibility was central to the storyline's success. Zayn said he had ideas and an overarching blueprint in mind, one that would begin with his effort to join the group and eventually lead to a championship match with Reigns. But he also emphasized the value of unexpected developments that emerged as the program unfolded each week.

“Some of the week-to-week stuff that you don't account for, those are just gifts that fall into your lap,” Zayn said. “And then it's playing with those gifts.”

The key moments that elevated the story

The Bloodline saga gave Zayn a series of pivotal television moments, with his relationship with Reigns and Jey Uso driving much of the emotional progression. On the September 23, 2022 edition of WWE SmackDown in Salt Lake City, Reigns formally embraced Zayn as part of the group. It was a major reward for months of Zayn's on-screen pursuit of acceptance and a clear sign that his role was no longer simply at the edge of the story.

Jey's acceptance took longer. His resistance to Zayn was one of the most important threads in the entire program because it made every move toward unity feel earned. At Survivor Series that year, Zayn showed his allegiance to The Bloodline in the WarGames Match, a grueling setting that further advanced his standing within the group. Two months after Reigns' embrace, Jey also accepted Zayn following that display of loyalty.

For a time, Zayn appeared fully entrenched in WWE's most powerful faction. That made the eventual collapse of the relationship all the more effective. By the time the 2023 Royal Rumble arrived, the audience had seen Zayn fight for the group's approval, earn it, and form genuine connections within its internal hierarchy. The stakes were no longer limited to whether he could gain access to The Bloodline. The story had become about what Zayn would be willing to sacrifice to remain there, and what he would do when the cost became too high.

After Reigns successfully defended the Undisputed WWE Championship against Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble, The Bloodline attempted to continue the attack. Zayn refused to participate. He then struck Reigns in the back with a steel chair, instantly severing his alliance with The Tribal Chief and setting off one of the most memorable crowd reactions of that period.

The aftermath was immediate and brutal. Solo Sikoa, Jimmy Uso, and Reigns attacked Zayn, while Jey watched in visible conflict. The image reinforced how much the program had grown beyond a simple faction split. Jey's reaction mattered because WWE had spent months building his complicated bond with Zayn. The chair shot was not only a turn against Reigns; it was the culmination of a long story about belonging, loyalty, manipulation, and self-respect.

Montreal and the road to a championship breakthrough

Within weeks, Zayn stood across the ring from Reigns with the Undisputed WWE Championship at stake at Elimination Chamber in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Challenging Reigns in his hometown gave the match an enormous emotional foundation. Zayn had entered the Bloodline story hoping for a place beside WWE's top champion. He emerged from it as a challenger capable of standing up to him in front of one of the loudest audiences of his career.

Although Zayn did not leave that event with the championship, the program permanently elevated his position. The Bloodline work showed that he could carry high-stakes drama, deliver major emotional moments, and connect with viewers in a way that reached far beyond the usual boundaries of a supporting role. It also proved that humor and vulnerability could coexist with main-event intensity.

That context makes Zayn's Night of Champions 2026 victory over Rhodes especially meaningful. Becoming Undisputed WWE Champion is a historic personal achievement, but it also represents the continuation of an arc that gained crucial momentum during the Bloodline era. His championship win did not erase the importance of the 2022 and 2023 storyline; it validated how much that story reshaped his standing in WWE.

Zayn's comments reflect a grounded view of a career that has featured numerous memorable performances, rivalries, and accomplishments. He recognizes that the Bloodline saga could still be the first thing many fans associate with him decades from now. Given the popularity of the Honorary Uce era, the Royal Rumble chair shot, and the Montreal championship challenge, that possibility is understandable.

But Zayn now carries a distinction he did not have during those defining moments: he is a WWE world champion. The Bloodline story may have been his career peak before Night of Champions 2026, but it also helped establish the foundation for the peak he has reached today.
