Roman Reigns believes Logan Paul’s greatest strength in WWE is that he does not fit the conventional mold of a professional wrestler.

During a sit-down conversation on Club Shay Shay, Reigns reflected on his history with Paul and discussed the qualities that have allowed the social-media star, boxer, and WWE performer to make such a rapid impression in the company. Their most significant meeting came at Crown Jewel in 2022, when Paul challenged Reigns for the Undisputed WWE Championship in a high-profile singles match.

Reigns, who has performed alongside and against generations of elite athletes during his career, made it clear that Paul has legitimate physical gifts. But the former Undisputed WWE Champion said Paul’s athletic ability is only one part of what makes him stand out. In Reigns’ view, Paul’s personality and natural charisma are the defining traits that have given him an unusual presence on WWE programming.

“He’s a really good athlete… I’ve been around some crazy athletes so he’s a good athlete but, I think it’s his personality; it’s his charisma. That’s what makes him special and that’s why I’ve told him before is, ‘Don’t try to be one of us. Don’t try to be a wrestler. Just be Logan Paul. That’s worked out plenty. That’s what we’re looking for. Yeah, figure out how to fit in but don’t camouflage yourself here because you’re special.’ He’s fascinating to me.”

Reigns’ advice centered on individuality

The message from Reigns was not that Paul should ignore the fundamentals required to succeed in WWE. Instead, it was a reminder that Paul did not need to erase the traits that made him recognizable long before he entered a wrestling ring.

WWE has always featured performers from a wide range of backgrounds, but Paul arrived with a profile unlike most newcomers. He already had a global audience, an established on-camera persona, major-event boxing experience, and a public identity that had drawn strong reactions from fans well outside the wrestling world. Reigns’ advice recognized that trying to become indistinguishable from every other talent would work against the very thing that made Paul valuable.

“Figure out how to fit in” is an important part of Reigns’ recollection. The comment acknowledges that WWE has its own demands, expectations, and rhythm. Paul still had to learn how to perform in the ring, how to tell stories through matches, how to work within a live television environment, and how to handle the pressure associated with WWE’s biggest events. None of that is automatic, regardless of athletic pedigree or fame.

At the same time, Reigns did not want Paul to camouflage the instincts that had made him a prominent entertainment figure. That balance has become central to Paul’s WWE identity. His presentation has leaned into the confidence, showmanship, attention-seeking energy, and willingness to create spectacle that audiences already associated with him. Those qualities have helped make him a natural antagonist in front of WWE crowds.

The Crown Jewel match remains a defining moment

Reigns and Paul met one-on-one at the 2022 Crown Jewel Premium Live Event, with Reigns putting the Undisputed WWE Championship on the line. The match was Paul’s first challenge for WWE’s top prize and represented a major test of how much responsibility the company was prepared to put on a relatively inexperienced in-ring performer.

It also placed Paul across the ring from one of the most accomplished stars of his generation. Reigns was at the center of WWE’s main-event scene and had established himself as the dominant champion of that era. For Paul, the opportunity brought immediate scrutiny. Celebrity involvement in wrestling often attracts questions about whether an outsider can meet the demands of a major match, particularly when the championship is involved.

Paul’s performance became a key part of the conversation coming out of Crown Jewel. While Reigns retained the title, the match gave Paul a major platform to demonstrate that he could operate in a high-pressure environment against a world-class opponent. It also reinforced the idea that his WWE role would not simply be limited to appearances built around name recognition.

Reigns’ current comments add another layer to that encounter. His recollection suggests he saw something distinctive in Paul rather than viewing him only as a celebrity brought in for a special attraction. Reigns described Paul as “fascinating,” a word that speaks to the unpredictability of someone who entered WWE from outside the traditional development system but brought a fully formed public persona with him.

Why charisma matters in WWE

Professional wrestling demands more than physical ability. Athleticism can create memorable moments, but sustained success often comes down to whether a performer can connect with an audience, provoke a reaction, and make viewers care about the result of a match. Reigns’ assessment of Paul focused heavily on that point.

Paul’s presentation has never depended on being positioned as a conventional wrestler who rose through the usual ranks. His appeal, particularly as a heel, comes from the friction created by his status. He can present himself as a major star who arrived with fame and confidence already intact, and that naturally gives opponents and audiences something to push back against. Rather than hide that tension, WWE has often made it part of his character.

That does not eliminate the need for credibility once the bell rings. If anything, Paul’s visibility raises the stakes. A performer who enters with enormous name recognition is expected to justify the attention. Reigns’ praise for Paul’s athleticism indicates that he sees a foundation that can support the personality-driven aspects of Paul’s act.

There is also a practical element to Reigns’ advice. The WWE roster is filled with performers who have spent years developing their own voices, styles, and stories. A newcomer attempting to imitate that path without the same background risks coming across as artificial. Paul’s best route, as Reigns explained, was to retain the distinctive qualities nobody else on the roster could duplicate.

Paul remains connected to Raw while recovering

Paul is currently aligned with The Vision faction on Monday Night Raw. His ongoing association with the group keeps him tied to one of WWE’s major weekly television brands even as he works his way back from injury.

He is recovering from a triceps tear suffered in May. The injury has placed his in-ring future on hold for the time being, and no additional timetable for a return is established here. A triceps injury can be particularly significant for a wrestler because upper-body strength and stability factor into nearly every aspect of in-ring performance, from striking and grappling to taking falls and executing high-impact maneuvers.

For now, Paul’s place in The Vision gives WWE a narrative connection to revisit when he is cleared to return. It also leaves open questions about how his recovery could affect the faction’s direction and which rivalries may be waiting once he is physically ready to compete again.

Reigns sees a performer with a unique lane

Reigns’ comments ultimately serve as an endorsement of the approach that has defined Paul’s WWE run. He did not suggest Paul needed to become a version of Reigns, or a version of any wrestler who came before him. He suggested that Paul’s best chance to thrive was to maintain his own identity while learning how to apply it within the WWE environment.

That philosophy is especially notable coming from Reigns, whose own career has involved years of evolution before becoming one of WWE’s most recognizable modern figures. Reigns understands the value of a performer discovering an authentic voice, and his advice to Paul reflects that experience.

Paul’s long-term trajectory will depend on his recovery, his eventual return to the ring, and the opportunities WWE presents him after his triceps tear. But Reigns’ perspective is clear: Paul does not need to disappear into the crowd to prove he belongs. In Reigns’ estimation, the qualities that made Logan Paul successful before WWE are precisely the qualities that can continue to make him special inside it.
