Rey Mysterio has offered an encouraging update on daughter Aalyah Mysterio’s early training at the WWE Performance Center, describing the newest member of the Mysterio family’s wrestling journey as both challenging and rewarding.
Aalyah, who is signed with WWE alongside her brother Dominik, has begun training at the company’s Performance Center in Orlando, Florida. Rey explained that she has only been in training for roughly a month and a weekend, placing her firmly at the beginning of the process of learning how to become a professional wrestler.
That learning curve has come with understandable moments of frustration. At the same time, Rey made clear that Aalyah is adapting quickly and, most importantly, has found real enjoyment in the work.
“She’s doing good,” Rey said. “She’s about a month and a weekend of training in, and she picks up very fast. But she also gets very frustrated very easy, but it’s normal.”

The comments offer a grounded picture of what Aalyah’s transition into wrestling currently looks like. A family connection can create awareness of the business and its demands, but it does not eliminate the need to start with the basics once training begins. The Performance Center environment requires new recruits to absorb a substantial amount of information, from physical mechanics and ring movement to match structure, terminology, character development, and the day-to-day discipline needed for a career in WWE.
Rey emphasized that Aalyah’s experience differs from the path Dominik had before his own in-ring career began. Dominik spent more time around WWE while growing up, including time backstage where he could observe performers, crew members, and the broader rhythm of the industry. Aalyah, by comparison, did not have that same level of immersion in the wrestling environment as a child.
“She wasn’t around as much like Dom was as a kid, backstage playing and hanging out with the boys and the wrestlers and the staff and crew,” Rey said.
That distinction matters because wrestling knowledge extends far beyond what viewers see on television. Knowing the names of wrestlers, recognizing moves, understanding the language used during training, and becoming familiar with the culture of the locker room can all be part of the adjustment for a new trainee. Even someone raised in one of wrestling’s most famous families can encounter a steep initial transition when the time comes to pursue the profession personally.
Rey said Aalyah has had to work through that unfamiliarity as she begins her education. He noted that the amount of information confronting a newcomer can become overwhelming if they attempt to process everything at once.
“She struggles a little bit,” Rey said. “She’s completely new to the industry in the sense that training, knowing wrestlers, knowing wrestling names, moves — all these little things that if you try to combine everything at once, you’re gonna go crazy because there’s so much, so much to learn here!”
For Rey, those struggles do not appear to be a cause for concern. Instead, they are a normal part of the earliest phase of developing as a wrestler. The former WWE Champion stressed that Aalyah is taking in the process and responding positively to it, even when the volume of material can be difficult to manage.
“But, she’s enjoying it very, very much,” Rey said.
A New Chapter for the Mysterio Family
Aalyah’s arrival at the Performance Center represents another major chapter for a family already deeply connected to WWE and lucha libre. Rey has remained one of the most recognizable names in modern wrestling, with a career built on his pioneering influence as a masked high-flyer and his longevity at the top level of the industry.
Dominik has established a markedly different identity during his WWE run. After initially appearing alongside his father, Dominik developed into one of WWE’s most prominent younger stars and is currently the reigning AAA Mega Champion. The title places him at the center of high-profile activity involving WWE and AAA, while also continuing the family’s strong connection to Mexican wrestling.
Now, Aalyah is working toward creating her own place in the business. Rey’s update does not suggest a timetable for her debut, a prospective brand, or a potential on-screen role. At this stage, the focus is on training and adjustment rather than projecting when she may appear before the WWE audience.
That is an important distinction for any developing prospect. Performance Center training is designed to build a foundation before an athlete takes the next step toward a possible WWE appearance. Aalyah has the advantage of guidance from a father with decades of experience, but Rey’s comments also indicate that she is being allowed to confront the natural difficulties of the process and learn at her own pace.
The Mysterio name will inevitably bring attention to her progress, particularly given Rey’s legacy and Dominik’s current championship status. Yet the early feedback from Rey centers less on expectation and more on effort: Aalyah is learning quickly, encountering frustration, and continuing to enjoy the work enough to keep moving forward.
Rey and Dominik Set for AAA Triplemanía 34
While Aalyah continues her training in Orlando, both Rey and Dominik are scheduled for major matches at AAA Triplemanía 34.
Rey will compete on night one of the event in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he is set to face Omos. The match gives Rey another significant singles assignment and places him opposite one of the most physically imposing competitors in wrestling.
Night two will take place in Mexico City on September 13, and Dominik is scheduled to headline the card. He will defend the AAA Mega Championship against El Grande Americano, making the title match one of the focal points of the show.
The two-night event presents a notable moment for the Mysterios. Rey’s match with Omos continues his own active in-ring schedule, while Dominik enters a headline championship defense with the AAA Mega Championship at stake. Their appearances also underline the family’s broad position in wrestling at the moment: Rey remains an active veteran star, Dominik holds a major title, and Aalyah has started the work required to pursue the profession from the ground up.
For Aalyah, the immediate objective remains the Performance Center and the education that comes with it. Rey’s update paints a realistic but optimistic picture: she is very new, she has a great deal to learn, and she experiences frustration while navigating unfamiliar aspects of wrestling. But she is also progressing quickly and enjoying the opportunity.
