Penta is in no rush to turn his WWE Money in the Bank victory into an immediate championship match.

Fresh off winning the men’s Money in the Bank briefcase, Penta addressed the enormous leverage now at his disposal and made it clear that he intends to be selective rather than impulsive. The Mexican star has a guaranteed route to a world title opportunity, but he views the contract as much more than a shortcut. In his mind, it is the power to dictate the conditions of the moment that could define his WWE career.

That approach includes the possibility of pursuing Roman Reigns, the current WWE World Heavyweight Champion. Penta recently came up short against Reigns in a title match in his home country, but the defeat did not diminish his standing. Instead, the contest left Penta eager for another opportunity against the champion—on a timetable of his own choosing.

Penta Wants the Element of Surprise

When asked about when he plans to cash in, Penta was emphatic that it will not happen immediately.

“But not yet. Not too soon,” Penta said.

For Penta, the briefcase represents a major turning point. He explained that reaching the top of the ladder changed the way he sees his path to championship glory. Rather than simply waiting for another opportunity to emerge, he now possesses the ability to create one.

“This is a big surprise because I was thinking something when I climbed to the top and the ladder, this is the real key for [when] I will become a world champion, right? Now I decide when, I decide where, and I decide against who.”

That last point is central to Penta’s strategy. A Money in the Bank winner can gain an advantage through timing, whether that means targeting a champion after a punishing match, exploiting a rivalry that leaves the titleholder vulnerable, or simply striking when nobody anticipates it. Penta is not interested in revealing his full plan before he is ready to act.

The declaration also puts every champion in WWE on notice. The Money in the Bank contract is inherently disruptive because the holder can loom over title matches and major events alike. Every time a champion survives a hard-fought defense, the possibility of Penta emerging with the briefcase becomes part of the story.

On the episode of WWE Raw following Money in the Bank, Penta delivered that warning directly. He told the world champions to watch their backs and promised that he could cash in at any time on his way to becoming a world champion. His latest comments reinforce that message, while also making clear that patience will be a weapon in his title pursuit.

Roman Reigns Rematch Remains a Priority

Roman Reigns is plainly on Penta’s radar. Asked if he could use the briefcase to challenge the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, Penta did not hesitate to entertain the prospect.

“Why not? [face Roman Reigns] But as I mentioned before, Penta decides when, where. Now I relax for a little bit, and later I start studying my opponents. But for now, I want to enjoy this.”

Penta’s remarks come after his recent championship loss to Reigns in Mexico. While he did not leave that match with the title, he emerged from the encounter looking stronger than ever. That performance appears to have given him further confidence that he can defeat Reigns if he gets the right opening.

He did not hide his desire to run the match back.

“Definitely, I want a rematch against Roman Reigns. But the real question is when? And the real question is where? And that is a surprise.”

There is an important difference between asking for a rematch and holding Money in the Bank. Penta no longer has to rely solely on a formal challenge, a contender’s match, or a decision made by WWE officials. The briefcase places the ultimate decision in his hands. If Reigns remains champion, Penta can pursue a direct rematch at a major event, pick a venue with personal meaning, or wait until circumstances favor a cash-in.

At the same time, Penta’s focus is not necessarily limited to Reigns. His words repeatedly stressed that he will decide who stands across the ring from him. The current champions now have reason to monitor not only Penta’s actions but also the momentum around their own divisions. A champion entering a grueling match has to worry about the opponent in front of them. With Penta carrying Money in the Bank, they also have to think about who could arrive after the bell.

A Different Kind of Opportunity for Penta

Penta has already achieved championship success throughout his career, particularly in tag team competition across multiple promotions. However, his major singles world title history is considerably more limited. His lone major singles world championship came during his time in Impact, making the WWE briefcase an opportunity to add the biggest singles accomplishment of his WWE tenure to date.

That history helps explain why Penta is treating the contract with such care. Money in the Bank does not guarantee that its holder will become champion, but it provides an extraordinary chance to do so. The choice between a pre-announced match and an opportunistic cash-in can shape not only the outcome but also the perception of the eventual title win.

Penta’s comments suggest that he understands both sides of that equation. He wants the championship, but he also wants the moment to belong to him. He spoke about deciding the “when” and “where” as often as he discussed deciding “against who.” Those details could determine whether the cash-in is an ambush, a calculated response to a champion’s weakness, or a high-profile rematch designed to settle a score.

His decision to pause and study potential opponents also adds another layer. Penta is not framing the briefcase as an excuse to avoid competition. Rather, he is presenting himself as a contender preparing for the most consequential match of his WWE run. The time between Money in the Bank and the cash-in could allow him to identify a weakness, assess rivalries around the title picture, and make the champion wonder where he may appear next.

The Briefcase Changes WWE’s Championship Landscape

Every Money in the Bank winner changes the atmosphere around WWE’s championships, and Penta’s reign as briefcase holder has begun with immediate uncertainty. His recent loss to Reigns may lead some to expect a straightforward rematch, especially since Penta has openly said that he wants one. Yet his refusal to commit to a date or location means that even the most obvious direction is far from certain.

Reigns cannot dismiss the threat simply because he defeated Penta once. Penta has already stated that he came away from their previous encounter wanting another chance, and he now holds an advantage that he did not have in that first match. The champion may be able to prepare for Penta in a sanctioned title defense, but preparation becomes much harder if the challenger chooses an unexpected moment after a demanding battle.

For Penta, though, the key message is control. He does not want to be rushed into an emotional decision after winning the briefcase. He wants to enjoy what he has earned, evaluate the champions, and select the situation that gives him the best route to realizing his ambition.

That makes the road ahead compelling. Penta has announced his long-term goal without providing the answer to the most important question: when will he strike? Roman Reigns remains a stated target, but not a confirmed one. Until Penta makes his choice, every title match carries an added sense of danger—and the briefcase remains the real key to a potential new world champion.
