Killer Kross has added a deeply personal layer to his upcoming Awesome Championship Wrestling Heavyweight Championship defense against Joseph Sawyer, invoking the late Bray Wyatt and suggesting that he was once intended to be involved in the act that ultimately became the Wyatt Sicks.
Kross, known to WWE audiences as Karrion Kross, will defend the ACW Heavyweight Championship against Sawyer at ACW Mischief Night 2 on October 17. The event is scheduled for the MJN Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. Sawyer is the wrestler previously known as Joe Gacy, who had been associated with the Wyatt Sicks in WWE before making his TNA debut.
In a social-media promo directed at his challenger, Kross did not present the match as a routine championship bout. Instead, he framed it around Sawyer’s connection to the Wyatt Sicks, the legacy of Windham Rotunda, and an apparent sense that Kross himself had been excluded from something he believed he was meant to join.

The champion began by acknowledging that Sawyer’s current situation appears to be moving in a positive direction following his arrival in TNA. But Kross argued that Sawyer will remain permanently linked to the group that defined a major portion of his recent career.

“That’s a brand that you will never escape,” Kross said.
That line set the tone for an address that was both confrontational and unusually reflective. Rather than simply dismissing Sawyer’s prior association, Kross told him that he understood who he was beneath the presentation and that he was proud of how his opponent was handling what Kross called a “catastrophe.” He then alluded to the person he believed had selected Sawyer for that role: Rotunda, better known to wrestling fans as Bray Wyatt.
“But I know who you are and I’m so proud of you. You’re handling this whole catastrophe so well. I think that’s why he chose you. You know who I’m talking about.”
Kross then made the central claim of the promo. He said he was saddened that he did not become part of the Wyatt Sicks, stating that when Windham discussed the concept, the intended scope was larger than the six people represented in the group’s name. Kross said there had been a crew expected to spread across “all three platforms,” with six serving as the initial number rather than the final limit.
“You know, I think to myself, Joe, it makes me so sad that I wasn’t in the Wyatt Sicks. Because when Windham talked about the Wyatt Sicks, there was a crew of us that was going to expand across all three platforms. Six initially, but there was going to be a whole lot more.”
The remarks are significant because Kross did not merely say that he admired the Wyatt Sicks concept or wished he had worked with Wyatt. He explicitly implied that his involvement had been planned or expected at one stage. He also described feeling shut out of a role that he considered his destiny.
“Every once in awhile I used to ask myself, ‘Why didn’t they let me be a part of what I was supposed to be a part of?’”
Kross did not provide additional details about who was involved in those discussions, when they took place, or what a broader version of the group would have looked like. He also did not identify the “three platforms” referenced in his comments. As a result, the full extent of the plans he described remains unclear. What is clear is that Kross is using that unresolved history to define the emotional stakes of his first announced meeting with Sawyer.
Kross Turns Regret Into A Threat
Although Kross spoke openly about disappointment, the latter half of his message was not sentimental. He said he had come to believe that being placed somewhere else happened for a greater reason. In his view, Sawyer was chosen because Rotunda saw greatness in him, and a wrestler with that potential requires an opponent capable of forcing it out of him.
Kross positioned himself as that opposition. The ACW champion said he intends to make Sawyer fulfill that expectation through violence, promising to beat him severely whenever the opportunity arises. The first such opportunity will come with the championship at stake on October 17.
The promo gives the ACW Heavyweight Championship match a rivalry framework that reaches beyond the usual challenger-versus-champion dynamic. Sawyer is entering the bout carrying the history of his WWE identity and his association with the Wyatt Sicks, while Kross is approaching it as a man who believes he was denied a place in that same orbit.
That does not make the contest a reunion of former stablemates. Kross’s own words point in the other direction: he believes he was supposed to be part of something, but was not allowed to become part of it. The distinction matters. His promo is rooted in a sense of absence and missed opportunity, not shared membership.
It also creates a pointed contrast between the two wrestlers. Sawyer was visibly connected to the Wyatt Sicks, and Kross says that association is something he can never escape. Kross, meanwhile, sees himself as someone whose connection to the project existed behind the scenes or in conversations but never reached the audience. At Mischief Night 2, Kross will have the chance to confront someone he considers a living reminder of what did not happen.
Joseph Sawyer Enters With A New Chapter In TNA
Sawyer’s TNA debut provides another important backdrop to Kross’s comments. Kross acknowledged that his opponent’s fortunes have improved, but the champion’s praise was deliberately laced with a warning. His message was not that Sawyer has moved beyond his past. It was that the past will follow him regardless of the company in which he competes.
For Sawyer, the ACW title opportunity arrives during a period of transition. A move to TNA presents a new stage, while the October 17 bout offers an immediate chance to capture a heavyweight championship on the independent scene. Defeating Kross in Poughkeepsie would be a substantial statement, especially against an opponent determined to make the encounter about more than a belt.
Kross’s approach may also test how Sawyer responds when the Wyatt Sicks connection is used as a weapon against him. The champion’s words were not limited to standard pre-match insults. He directly brought Rotunda’s name and intentions into the dispute, while insisting that Sawyer was selected for a reason. That can be interpreted as respect for Sawyer’s ability, but it is respect delivered in the form of a challenge.
Rather than minimizing Sawyer, Kross is arguing that his challenger must prove he deserved the faith placed in him. In Kross’s telling, greatness is not a label that can simply be inherited from a group, a presentation, or a mentor’s belief. It has to be demonstrated against dangerous opposition.
The ACW Championship Match Takes On Added Weight
ACW Mischief Night 2 now has a clear championship centerpiece with personal stakes attached to it. Kross will enter Poughkeepsie as the reigning ACW Heavyweight Champion, facing a challenger with recognizable ties to both WWE and TNA. The setting at the MJN Center gives the two former WWE talents an opportunity to settle a conflict shaped by their respective paths after that chapter of their careers.
There is no indication from Kross’s promo that Sawyer has publicly responded to the champion’s claims. Nor are there further details regarding the expanded Wyatt Sicks concept Kross described. The focus, for now, is on what can be resolved in the ring: Kross’s championship defense and Sawyer’s attempt to take the title.
Still, Kross has made sure the match will be viewed through a broader lens. He has connected the bout to Bray Wyatt’s legacy, to his own belief that he was meant to occupy a different place in that story, and to Sawyer’s unavoidable association with the Wyatt Sicks. Those themes make October 17 more than an independent title defense on the calendar.
For Kross, it is an opportunity to turn a long-standing question into a declaration of purpose. For Sawyer, it is a chance to show that he is not defined solely by the group Kross says he can never escape. And for ACW, Mischief Night 2 now carries a heavyweight championship match fueled by one of the more striking personal claims Kross has made since returning to competition outside WWE.
