Kelani Jordan is not easing into life as WWE NXT Women’s Champion. Fresh off a demanding championship victory at NXT Heatwave, Jordan has immediately found herself staring down a challenge from Jaida Parker, a rival who knows her well and has no hesitation about targeting the new titleholder.
Jordan defeated Kendal Grey at NXT Heatwave to become NXT Women’s Champion, completing a pursuit she said had lasted three and a half years. The win was not merely a career-defining moment for Jordan; it also continued a pattern she has identified in her championship pursuits. Jordan said every title she has challenged for has been won on her first attempt, leading her to embrace a new nickname: “One-Shot Lani.”
“Yep. All full speed ahead,” Jordan said. “I’m so happy because this was my first try going for this title. I mean, honestly, my first try on all the titles that I’ve gone for, I won it. So, now I’m calling myself One-Shot Lani.”
That confidence comes with an understandable edge after a long wait for an NXT Women’s Championship opportunity. Jordan explained that she entered the Heatwave match with something to prove, having spent years chasing the chance to compete for the brand’s top women’s prize. When that opening finally arrived, she made the most of it immediately.

“I kind of went into that match with a chip on my shoulder because this is a title that I’ve been chasing for three and a half years,” Jordan said. “So, finally, I got my chance, and then I got it done on the first attempt.”

A Heatwave Match That Tested Both Competitors
Jordan’s victory over Grey was hard-earned. The match ran just a few seconds short of 23 minutes, a significant benchmark for an NXT women’s singles match without a stipulation. Jordan described the contest as an “instant classic,” praising the effort from both sides while making clear that she believes the better competitor prevailed when it mattered most.
“Kendall and I, we had an instant classic,” Jordan said. “It was a tough match for both of us. It also was like a few seconds less than 23 minutes, which is the longest women’s match, like a singles match with no stipulation. So we both gave our all, 110%, but the best woman won that day.”
The length and intensity of the Heatwave encounter underline the challenge Jordan overcame to reach the top of the division. Winning a championship can alter a wrestler’s position instantly, but winning it in a match that pushes both athletes close to 23 minutes can also establish the type of champion a performer intends to be.
Jordan has built her reputation around athletic ability, speed, and a willingness to rise to major occasions. For Jordan, Parker’s move was unsurprising. The NXT Women’s Championship is the most prominent prize in the women’s division, and a champion immediately becomes the person everyone else is chasing. Jordan acknowledged that she is still adjusting to the championship target on her back, but she also made it clear she understands exactly why Parker acted so quickly.
“When you’re champion, and this is not something I’m used to, you always have a target on your back, especially when you’re the NXT Women’s Champion, the top title of the women’s division,” Jordan said. “Jaida Parker came out. I’m not surprised.”
There is additional tension because Jordan and Parker are not strangers entering their first significant confrontation. They have shared the ring before, and Jordan said their history includes victories on both sides. That background gives Parker more than a generic challenger’s confidence: she can point to a prior win over Jordan and insist that she has already solved the champion’s game.
Jordan, however, rejects the idea that their previous encounters will determine what happens next Tuesday. In her view, the wrestler Parker faced months ago is not the same athlete carrying the NXT Women’s Championship today. Jordan believes her growth, the experience gained while chasing the title, and the validation of defeating Grey have moved her into a different class.
“We both have wins on either side going against each other,” Jordan said. “But now, I’m not the same Kelani Jordan that she wrestled a few months ago. I’ve completely evolved. I’ve grown. I’m a different caliber athlete. I am just not the same person that she wrestled when she beat me.”
Jordan Says Parker’s Talk Will Not Shake Her
Parker has made her presence felt with plenty of confidence, but Jordan is adamant that intimidation will not be a factor in their championship meeting. Jordan dismissed Parker as someone who talks often and vowed that her response will come inside the ring rather than through words alone.
“She loves to talk and just run her mouth,” Jordan said. “But something about me is, yeah, I can talk, but I also can back it up. So, next week, she’ll find out that you just can’t do it like me. So, Jaida and I, I’m ready for her.”
Jordan expanded on that point when asked whether Parker’s history against her creates any doubt. Her answer was decisive. While acknowledging their competitive past, Jordan said she is not afraid of a rival she characterized as “all bark.” The champion’s message is that a previous win does not provide Parker with an automatic advantage in a title match against a more developed version of Jordan.
“No, I’m not intimidated,” Jordan said. “I’m not afraid of Jaida. Like I said, we have a lot of history. We both have wins on either side going against each other. But now, I’m not the same Kelani Jordan that she wrestled a few months ago.”
The central question heading into September 8 is whether Jordan’s confidence and momentum can withstand an opponent whose familiarity may be as important as her ambition. Parker is not entering the match as a newcomer hoping to shock the champion. She has past experience against Jordan and has already shown that she is willing to confront her directly.

“Oh, no. She may be front row,” Jordan said. “She’s going to be front row in her own little chair. I won’t wear it. She’s going to have her own seat. Sit right, you know, in the front row, reserved seat just for her, polished and all.”
It is an amusing answer, but it also reflects the pride Jordan has in reaching this point. After spending three and a half years waiting for a chance to challenge for the NXT Women’s Championship, she has made the most of the first opportunity presented to her. Now comes the tougher responsibility: proving that her first shot was not her last moment at the top.
