In an industry where retirement announcements are often treated as temporary farewells rather than permanent conclusions, former WWE Divas Champion Kaitlyn does not appear to be feeling the pull of an in-ring comeback.

Kaitlyn, whose real name is Celeste Bonin, addressed the possibility of wrestling again during an appearance on Insight With Chris Van Vliet. While she made clear that her appreciation for professional wrestling remains strong, she said she does not presently have the desire to return to active competition.

“I hope no one hates me for this, but I don't really want to get back in the ring,” Kaitlyn said.

That answer separates Kaitlyn from many former wrestlers whose time away eventually gives way to a one-off appearance, a nostalgia-driven match, or a more sustained comeback. Professional wrestling has a long history of performers revisiting the ring after years away, whether for a major event, a special storyline, or simply because the unique energy of performing in front of a live crowd can be difficult to replace.

For Kaitlyn, however, the distance from the ring appears to have given her an even fuller appreciation for what wrestlers are asked to do. Rather than speaking negatively about her past career, she described wrestling as an art form with a long list of physical, emotional, and technical demands that viewers may not always see.

Kaitlyn Reflects on Wrestling’s Many Demands

Kaitlyn said becoming a professional wrestler changed the way she views the business. She remains entertained by wrestling and holds significant respect for performers who continue to work in it, particularly because of the many responsibilities involved in putting together a successful match.

“I respect wrestling a lot, and I find it very entertaining. I love the artistry of it,” Kaitlyn said.

She explained that wrestling requires much more than executing moves. In her view, performers must understand match psychology, build a connection with the audience, and tell a story through their facial expressions and body language. At the same time, they need to protect themselves and the wrestler across from them while staying conscious of camera positioning, timing, and the reaction in the building.

Kaitlyn also pointed to the need for wrestlers to adjust in real time. A planned idea may need to change if the crowd is not responding, and a performer must be able to recognize that shift without losing the thread of the match. That balance between athletic execution and live storytelling is one reason she believes her own experience in the ring gave her a deeper level of appreciation for the profession.

Her comments underline a perspective shared by many retired wrestlers: stepping away can make the work look even more difficult, not less. The physical risks are clear, but Kaitlyn emphasized the creative and situational challenges as well. A wrestling match asks performers to maintain awareness of their opponent, the audience, the production presentation, and the broader story all at once.

That respect, though, does not necessarily mean a comeback is inevitable. Kaitlyn’s remarks suggest that she can remain a fan of the medium and value what it gave her without feeling compelled to return to active in-ring competition.

A WWE Run That Included a Divas Championship

Kaitlyn’s original WWE tenure ran from 2010 until her departure in early 2014. During that stretch, she became one of the notable names in WWE’s Divas division and captured the WWE Divas Championship.

Her time with WWE came during an era that featured a different presentation of women’s wrestling from the one seen in the company today. Even so, Kaitlyn developed a recognizable identity and earned a place in the division during her first run. Her eventual championship reign remains the defining accomplishment of her WWE career.

After leaving WWE in 2014, Kaitlyn spent several years away from the company before making a brief return in 2018 for the Mae Young Classic. That appearance gave fans a chance to see her back in a WWE ring, but it did not become the beginning of another long-term full-time run.

The Mae Young Classic return also demonstrated that Kaitlyn was open to appearing in the right circumstance at that point in time. But her current comments indicate that a return to wrestling now is not something she is actively seeking. There is an important distinction between being willing to make a short-term appearance and wanting to resume the demanding routine of being an in-ring performer.

Her Most Recent Match Took Place in 2019

Kaitlyn’s most recent known match came in December 2019 at a special Annual Toy Drive held by Gangrel’s Wrestling Asylum. Since then, she has remained away from regular in-ring action.

Her absence has not stopped fans from wondering whether another WWE appearance could happen, especially as the company has increasingly welcomed back familiar names for reunion events, battle royals, anniversary shows, and other special attractions. Those opportunities can create speculation around nearly any former champion whose name still carries recognition with WWE audiences.

One potential return was discussed in connection with the 2022 Women’s Royal Rumble. WWE invited Kaitlyn to potentially participate in the match, which featured a number of surprise entrants and returning names. Ultimately, an in-ring appearance did not materialize for her.

That Royal Rumble included several prominent veterans, including The Bella Twins and then-Knockouts Champion Mickie James. The match’s lineup illustrated the appeal of the Royal Rumble format for former WWE stars, as it can provide a major stage for a memorable moment without requiring an extended return to weekly competition.

In Kaitlyn’s case, though, the fact that a 2022 appearance did not happen is now accompanied by her own candid explanation of where she stands. She is not framing a return as an ambition she hopes to pursue. Instead, she is emphasizing the value of the perspective she has gained since stepping away.

Respect Does Not Equal a Return

Wrestling fans are accustomed to treating “never say never” as a guiding principle. The nature of the business means that a wrestler’s circumstances, interests, and opportunities can change over time. Kaitlyn did not offer a definitive declaration that she will never wrestle another match. What she did say was more immediate and personal: she does not really want to get back in the ring.

That distinction matters. There is no indication in her comments that she has lost affection for wrestling or that she is dismissing the industry that helped define a major chapter of her public career. Quite the opposite, Kaitlyn spoke with enthusiasm about the art and difficulty of the craft.

But admiration for wrestling does not obligate someone to return to it. Her explanation reflects an understanding of the sacrifices the job requires, from the physical impact of performing to the pressure of communicating a compelling story under live-event conditions. Having experienced those demands herself, Kaitlyn appears comfortable maintaining her connection to wrestling from outside the ropes.

For fans who remember her WWE run, the comments may be disappointing if they were hoping for another major comeback. Still, Kaitlyn’s perspective offers a clear reminder that former wrestlers can cherish their careers without needing to revisit them in the same capacity.

As of now, Kaitlyn remains appreciative of professional wrestling, its performers, and its creative complexity. But based on her own words, a return to the ring is not a goal she is looking to chase.
