Dominik Mysterio does not see a past wrestling angle and wonder how he could have fit into it. In his view, WWE has already given him unusually prominent storyline opportunities through his on-screen associations with Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan.
During a recent video discussion with Penta about the greatest of all time in several categories, Mysterio was asked to identify the wrestling storyline he wishes he could have been involved in. Rather than point to a celebrated rivalry or an iconic angle from a previous era, the WWE star said he is satisfied with the major programs that have already defined much of his run as a heel.
“The GOAT wrestling storyline that I wish I could have been a part of, I mean, I don’t know, dude. I’ve been involved in some good ones, you know? You know, I had to deal with Rhea Ripley. Now I got my guarita Liv Morgan. I mean, I can’t say I put myself in any better positions.”
The answer reflects the unusual route Mysterio has taken since separating himself from his father, Rey Mysterio, at WWE Clash at the Castle in 2022. That turn was a pivotal moment for Dominik. It moved him away from the expectations attached to being Rey Mysterio’s son and into a character presentation built around antagonism, entitlement and an ability to draw strong reactions from WWE crowds.

Rather than being limited to a traditional father-versus-son issue, Dominik quickly became part of a broader on-screen relationship with Ripley. The pairing gave both performers a distinctive dynamic and helped establish Dominik as a central personality in a major WWE group story. His role was not simply that of a wrestler standing beside a more established name; the relationship became a consistent element of his character and a catalyst for crowd engagement.
Dominik Mysterio’s Confidence Comes From Major WWE Exposure
Mysterio’s response did not name a single historical storyline, which is notable in itself. When wrestlers are asked which angle they would have wanted to join, answers often look back at landmark rivalries, championship chases, faction wars or famous personal betrayals. Mysterio instead framed the question around his own career trajectory.
His point is straightforward: he has already been featured in storylines with performers who carry significant presence and audience investment. Ripley became a defining figure in Dominik’s rise as a villainous WWE character, while Morgan later became central to another high-profile chapter. For Mysterio, those experiences make it difficult to imagine a past angle that would have presented a clearly better opportunity.

Mysterio’s development has particularly benefited from character-driven programs. His heel turn against Rey remains the foundation of that evolution. Breaking away from his father gave Dominik an immediate personal conflict with decades of history behind it. Rey’s legacy is one of the most recognizable in modern wrestling, and Dominik’s decision to reject that connection in storyline terms created a sharp contrast between the younger Mysterio’s persona and the reputation associated with his family name.
From there, his work with Ripley gave the character another layer. The on-screen romance angle became part of the audience’s understanding of Dominik, and it kept him attached to stories with real narrative continuity. Rhea Ripley And Liv Morgan Have Been Central To His Character
Mysterio specifically cited both Ripley and Morgan in explaining why he has no lingering storyline envy. He said he “had to deal with Rhea Ripley” before adding that he now has “my guarita Liv Morgan.” The wording was delivered casually, but it underlined how closely his WWE identity has been tied to those relationships.
Those kinds of angles require more than simply appearing in the same segment. The performers involved have to maintain a clear sense of character, react to shifts in the story and keep audiences invested through developments that can unfold over a long period. Mysterio’s willingness to embrace an unpopular role has been a major part of why these presentations have stood out.
For a performer who entered WWE under the unavoidable spotlight of the Mysterio name, that progression matters. Dominik was always going to be judged in relation to Rey, both because of their real-life family connection and because of the lengthy on-screen history they shared. The 2022 betrayal created space for Dominik to be evaluated as a character with his own motivations, mannerisms and audience relationship.
His answer also suggests that Mysterio values being in an active, evolving story more than retroactively inserting himself into a classic one. There is a difference between admiring a famous wrestling angle and believing it would have served a particular performer better than the opportunities they actually received. Mysterio clearly falls into the latter camp.
He did not dismiss the idea that wrestling history contains great storylines. Instead, he emphasized that his own résumé already includes experiences he regards as difficult to improve upon. By mentioning Ripley and Morgan, he identified the programs that he believes gave him the strongest possible positions on WWE programming.
A Different Measure Of Success
Mysterio’s answer is not centered on a championship reign, a specific match result or a dream opponent. It is centered on involvement. That distinction is important because a wrestler can gain enormous visibility through a storyline that creates a clear character identity, even when the angle is not built around a title.
Dominik’s role across these programs has made him a constant subject of fan reaction. His character has become associated with being loudly rejected by audiences, and that response has helped give his appearances a sense of anticipation. A crowd does not need to wait for a match to begin before making its feelings clear about Mysterio, which is one of the clearest signs that a heel presentation has connected.
In that context, his lack of FOMO makes sense. He has not had to rely solely on the idea of what might have been in another era or alongside another group of stars. The stories with Ripley and Morgan have provided recognizable material in his own era, and they have kept his character relevant to larger WWE developments.
His exchange with Penta also offered a lighter setting for the question. The two discussed several GOAT categories, but Mysterio’s response still gave insight into how he views his place on the WWE roster. He sees his career to this point as one marked by favorable positioning rather than missed chances.
No Need To Look Backward
There is an understandable confidence in Mysterio’s assessment. He has taken a major risk in turning against the family connection that introduced him to much of the WWE audience, and the move has resulted in a completely different presentation from the one he had alongside Rey. The stories involving Ripley and Morgan have helped make that shift feel substantial rather than temporary.
Mysterio is not claiming that no wrestling storyline could ever compare with the great angles of the past. His point is more personal. Given the roles he has played with Ripley and Morgan, he cannot identify a better place to put himself.
That answer captures the current strength of his WWE character: Dominik Mysterio is no longer defined only by whose son he is or by a hypothetical role in somebody else’s famous story.
