Chelsea Green remains WWE Women’s Champion after surviving a punishing first defense against Nia Jax on WWE SmackDown. The victory carried additional significance for Green, as WWE has officially removed the “interim” designation from her championship reign.
Jax controlled large stretches of the contest with her overwhelming size and power, repeatedly forcing Green to fight from underneath. Lash Legend, Jax’s tag team partner, also attempted to create an opening for the challenger at ringside. Green ultimately found the support she needed from Tiffany Stratton, however, and capitalized on a late opportunity to put Jax away with the Unprettier.
For Green, the result was about more than simply escaping a difficult challenger. It established her as the undisputed WWE Women’s Champion in a match built around the difference between her speed and Jax’s physical dominance. Jax repeatedly appeared close to ending the bout, but Green stayed resourceful through every momentum swing and delivered her most important move at exactly the right moment.
Green Starts Fast but Jax Quickly Takes Control
Green did not enter the match looking to cautiously feel out her challenger. She attempted to take the fight to Jax immediately after the opening bell and got the larger competitor out of the ring. Green then looked to build on that early burst with a dive, but Jax caught her before she could gain full momentum.

That interception changed the direction of the match. Jax drove Green into the apron and then sent her flying over the Spanish commentary table. The sequence made clear that Green’s first defense would not be a standard showcase for a newly recognized champion. Instead, it became an extended test of how much damage she could absorb against one of WWE’s most physically imposing opponents.
Green did find ways to interrupt Jax’s attack. A step-up enzuigiri created a brief opening, and Green followed by connecting with a missile dropkick that sent Jax back to the floor. But even those moments carried danger. When Green tried to follow up with another kick, Jax caught her and dropped the champion onto the apron.
Jax used that opening to reassert control in emphatic fashion. After driving Green face-first into the turnbuckles multiple times, Jax hit a senton in the ring. She also used Green’s protective face mask against her, hanging the champion by the mask from the top rope. The mask was a major factor throughout the contest, functioning as both an obvious point of vulnerability for Green and an object Jax could target to increase the punishment.
The Protective Mask Becomes a Central Factor
The face mask was not merely part of Green’s presentation during the title defense. It became one of the match’s central strategic elements. Jax repeatedly focused on it, recognizing that removing it could leave Green more exposed and create a chance for the challenger to take over completely.
Green’s ability to recover after being hung up by the mask showed the urgency of the champion’s situation. She fought Jax off the top rope and then produced one of her most effective bursts of offense, knocking the challenger down before landing a hurricanrana and a pair of double knees.
Those attacks gave Green an opening to chase a bigger finishing sequence, but Jax stopped her again. When Green attempted a stomp, Jax countered into a Samoan Drop. It was another example of the challenger’s strength advantage, as Jax could turn even a promising Green rally into an immediate power move.
Jax then removed Green’s protective mask and sent her outside the ring, where Lash Legend was waiting. With Legend positioned to strike, Green was in danger of being overwhelmed by the combined presence of Jax and her partner. Stratton’s involvement prevented that scenario from becoming decisive.
Tiffany Stratton Neutralizes Lash Legend
Tiffany Stratton came to Green’s aid at the key moment, intercepting Legend’s attempted big right hand on behalf of the champion. Stratton’s intervention kept Legend from turning the championship match into a numbers game and gave Green the chance to regain her footing.
Green took advantage of the opening by sending Legend into the ring post. That response was important because it removed the immediate ringside threat and allowed Green to turn her attention back to Jax. With Legend temporarily neutralized, Green was able to get her protective mask back on before returning to the decisive exchange with the challenger.
The late moments returned to the issue that had followed Green for much of the match: possession of the mask. Green and Jax wrestled over it on the ropes, with both women trying to use the situation to gain control. The champion managed to emerge from that struggle in position to strike.
Green connected with the Unprettier and secured the pinfall victory, ending Jax’s challenge and retaining the WWE Women’s Title. After spending much of the match absorbing Jax’s offense, avoiding interference, and fighting to protect herself from further damage, Green needed only one clean chance to finish the contest.
A Defining First Defense for the Official Champion
This was a meaningful first title defense for Green because it placed her against a challenger who could dominate the match through raw force. Jax’s attack was relentless, and she had Green in compromising situations both inside and outside the ring. The challenger’s ability to catch Green’s dive, control her around ringside, and counter a stomp into a Samoan Drop consistently put the champion on the defensive.
Green’s victory did not come from overpowering Jax. It came from surviving, countering, and taking advantage of the brief openings available to her. The missile dropkick, hurricanrana, double knees, and eventual Unprettier all showed Green’s ability to use speed and timing when Jax’s power appeared ready to decide the match.
Stratton’s role cannot be separated from the result. Lash Legend’s presence created a major concern whenever the match spilled to ringside, especially once Jax had removed Green’s protective mask. Stratton prevented Legend from landing the big right hand and helped ensure that Jax could not capitalize on outside interference. Green then did her part by sending Legend into the ring post and bringing the action back under her control.
The result also gives added clarity to the WWE Women’s Championship picture. Green is no longer carrying an interim label after WWE officially dropped the designation, and she has immediately backed up her position by defeating Jax in her first defense. It was not an easy or dominant victory, but it was a hard-earned one over an opponent who spent much of the contest in control.
Jax Falls Short Despite a Dominant Performance
For Jax, the loss came after she had repeatedly pushed Green to the brink. She neutralized the champion’s early aggression, punished her around ringside, and centered much of her attack on the protective mask. Jax also had the support of Legend available at ringside, giving her another potential advantage as the match entered its final phase.
Yet the challenger could not finish Green when the opportunities arose. Green escaped the Annihilator, regained her mask, and survived the final battle over it on the ropes. The Unprettier arrived quickly after that exchange, leaving Jax unable to recover before the three-count.
Green’s successful defense closes the night with the WWE Women’s Title still around her waist and her status as champion now fully official. Jax proved she remains an exceptionally dangerous threat, while Legend’s attempted involvement and Stratton’s response added another layer to the closing stretch. In the end, though, Green found a way through the chaos.
Against a challenger who could overpower her at nearly every turn, Chelsea Green relied on resilience, opportunism, and a timely assist from Tiffany Stratton. One Unprettier was enough to secure the victory, preserve her championship reign, and mark her first defense as WWE Women’s Champion with a win.
