Big Cass’ latest appearance on WWE Raw has become a major point of discussion following his singles loss to Dragon Lee. While the match was widely viewed as a step forward for Cass from an in-ring standpoint, the result has led to questions about how highly WWE currently values him as a singles act on the red brand.

Cass faced Dragon Lee on the October 2026 edition of Raw, in what was only his fifth match since returning to WWE in August. Dragon Lee scored the victory, and the outcome stood out because Cass had been presented as the physically larger, more established competitor in the matchup. For a wrestler attempting to regain momentum after a return, losses can take on added significance, particularly when television time and match opportunities have been relatively limited.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer assessed the bout as Cass’ best match since coming back to WWE television. However, Meltzer also argued that the decision to have Cass lose provides a telling indication of his present standing within the company’s booking plans.

“It was by far the best thing that Cass has done since he got there, as far as the match goes,” Meltzer said. “Unfortunately, the end result also tells you that, they would never let Cass if they had plans for him lose to Dragon Lee. That is not in their MO at all. But he did. I think Cass may need Enzo [Amore], ’cause they’ve given up on him as a single, which is a lot quicker than I thought they would.”

The analysis does not establish that WWE has definitively abandoned plans for Cass as a solo performer. It does, though, reflect the questions naturally created by his early booking. Cass returned with immediate recognition attached to his name, a notable physical presence, and a past connection to one of WWE’s more memorable tag-team acts of the previous decade. Yet his role over the last two months has remained centered in the mid-card rather than a clearly defined climb toward one of the brand’s top championships.

A strong performance, but an unfavorable result

The key distinction in the discussion around Cass is the difference between match quality and presentation. A wrestler can benefit from working a strong television match, especially when that match helps reintroduce them to an audience that may not have followed their career outside WWE. At the same time, victories and losses are the most visible way WWE communicates hierarchy to viewers.

Dragon Lee is an immensely talented and dynamic performer whose speed-based offense makes him a compelling opponent for a heavyweight such as Cass. The size contrast gave the match a clear visual hook, and Cass was able to show more than simply his power game. That is important for someone who is trying to establish that he can contribute in a modern WWE environment that regularly emphasizes athletic pace and versatility.

Still, Dragon Lee winning changes the conversation. Lee is a credible athlete and an established member of the Raw roster, but a victory over Cass can be interpreted as WWE prioritizing Lee’s momentum over building Cass as an imposing new or returning threat. That may be a perfectly deliberate choice for the company. It also means Cass has not yet received the sort of protected booking that often accompanies a performer being positioned for a major singles push.

That reality is especially notable because Cass has wrestled only five times since his August return. A small sample of matches does not necessarily reveal a complete long-term creative direction. WWE frequently introduces returning talent gradually, tests crowd responses, and shifts plans based on weekly programming needs. But with limited appearances, each loss has greater weight. There have not been enough wins or major storyline developments around Cass to offset the perception created by the Dragon Lee result.

The Je’Von Evans program has kept Cass in the middle of the card

Much of Cass’ WWE television activity since returning has involved Je’Von Evans. The issue for Cass is not that working with Evans is inherently a negative assignment. Evans has become one of the younger names capable of attracting attention, and a rivalry with him can give Cass a consistent reason to appear on the program.

Instead, the larger question is whether the feud has positioned Cass as a meaningful obstacle or simply another opponent within Evans’ continued development. WWE often uses established or returning talent in rivalries with rising performers, allowing the younger wrestler to gain valuable exposure against someone who brings a different style, look, and level of experience to the matchup.

If Cass is intended to become a fixture in the upper portion of the Raw card, his presentation will likely need greater definition. That could come through a decisive win streak, a more focused character direction, a championship pursuit, or a rivalry that gives him a clearer personal stake. At present, he has been visible enough to remain part of the conversation, but not consistently positioned as a centerpiece of the show.

The Dragon Lee loss has therefore become less about one match and more about the absence of an obvious next step. Cass showed that he could have a productive outing with one of Raw’s most explosive wrestlers. The remaining question is whether WWE will build upon that performance or treat it as another chapter in an extended mid-card run.

Could an Enzo Amore reunion change the equation?

Meltzer’s comments also revived speculation surrounding a possible reunion between Cass and Enzo Amore. The two were closely associated as a tag team during their original WWE run, pairing Cass’ size and ring presence with Amore’s outspoken verbal delivery. Their entrance routine and presentation made them one of the most recognizable acts on WWE television during that period.

Earlier in 2026, there were reports that Amore had been seen at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida, leading to talk that a return could be possible. At that stage, it appeared more likely that Amore might return to WWE than Cass. The situation changed once Cass appeared on Raw in August, though discussion of Amore joining him has cooled in the months since.

There is no confirmation that WWE is preparing to bring Amore back, and no indication that a reunion has been formally planned. Any suggestion that Cass “needs” his former partner remains opinion rather than an announced creative direction. Nevertheless, the idea continues to attract attention because it would offer WWE an immediate narrative framework for Cass.

A reunion would not automatically solve every question around Cass’ booking. The WWE roster is different from the one in which the pair initially found success, and the tag team division has its own established acts and ongoing priorities. However, returning Cass to a familiar partnership could quickly give him a more defined identity than he has held as a singles wrestler since August.

It could also create several possible story paths. WWE could present the duo as a nostalgic reunion, use their history to introduce tension between the former partners, or establish them as a tag team with unfinished business. Those are only potential directions, not reported plans, but the connection remains relevant whenever Cass’ singles trajectory appears uncertain.

WWE still has time to clarify Cass’ role

For now, the most concrete takeaway is that Big Cass had a notable match against Dragon Lee and came out on the losing side. The match drew positive attention for the quality of Cass’ performance, but the finish has fueled concern that he is not currently being treated as a priority singles project.

That does not mean his position cannot change quickly. WWE booking can shift rapidly when a performer gains momentum, finds the right opponent, or receives a storyline that connects with the audience. Cass remains a distinctive presence because of his stature and his prior familiarity with WWE fans. The company also has ample room to redirect him should it decide that the current mid-card approach is not maximizing his value.

His next few appearances will be important. A response to the Dragon Lee loss, a decisive result in the ongoing situation with Je’Von Evans, or a fresh storyline could all help clarify whether WWE sees Cass as a developing singles player or primarily as a supporting piece on Raw. Until then, his strongest match since returning has also become the performance most likely to generate debate about where he stands.
